@pienkani Google and others will most likely give the name, which comes first according to the alphabetical order. Bilingualism is something monolinguals don’t understand.

The fact that apps and even some people automatically use the Swedish names for places in Finland if your default language is set to English annoys me so bad, we've been our own country for over a hundred years

@laine_alma Jälleen yksi syy lisää Ylen lakkauttamiselle. Kyllä Ylen tehtävä on palvella kansalaisia.

Yleisradio täräyttää: ”JÄÄKIEKKO ON LIIAN NATIONALISTINEN LAJI JA SIINÄ ON LIIAN VÄHÄN MAAHANMUUTTAJIA” ..joten siksi MM-juhlaakaan ei yleisradion kanavilta näkynyt? Liian ”suomalainen”? No ei yllätä. Ennen vanhaan tällainen olisi maanpetoksellista.

@Microinteracti1 To be fair, Finland’s oligopoly for grocery stores is even worse. But we do have Lidl for cheap food and two others for excellent variety. It’s up to you if you want to eat good, healthy food or junk. Everything’s equally expensive 😆

🇳🇴 Completely agree. Been to Norway several times - easily the worst grocery market in Western Europe. The Finns call it the last Soviet Union, and they’re not wrong. Four chains carve up the country like a planned economy, hiding behind tariff walls that slap 277%+ on European cheese to protect an agricultural sector that couldn’t compete with a mid-sized Danish farm. One of the richest countries on earth, eating like it’s 1987.
Thomas Hornall@Thomashornall

Moved to Norway and shocked at the food system. Supermarkets are essentially big corner shops. Processed slop, tinned/packaged stuff everywhere, while fish, chicken beef, fruit/veg are very expensive. Around 50% of all food sold in Norway is now ultraprocessed

@Argantonis @AGBRSports Yeah, I agree. Crosby and Celebrini are C-class players, not A or B. Not as good as finns like Lehtonen, Puistola, Saarijärvi and Manninen.

@ol76azz @Goatthingssss I’ve already explained why Barkov is the best player in the world in the original thread. I don’t need to explain it anymore. Cope

@AGBRSports Are people still sleeping on Barkov? If he was a Leaf, he'd be worshipped like a god.

@Nordix_XY Vyborg is the translitteration of the Russian name. The Swedish name is Viborg.

English should use Swedish names for Finn cities. I always feel like Winnie the pooh when I see or hear the Finnish names. Jakobstad - Pietarsaari Vyborg - Viipuri Uleåborg - Oulu Tammerfors - Tempere Åbo (oh-bo) - Turku Helsinki works in English but Helsingfors sounds better.

This is what 1.2 million Euros get you in Helsinki right now. 150m² with kitchen, bathroom, sauna and four rooms in a palace built in 1903.

@SelotAphephobia @VIVIFANGS Swedish-speaking elite is basically non-existent in Finland nowadays. Some wealthy noble families still exist but they tend to stay very lowkey and paying their taxes though. Most Swedish speakers are in the working and middle class.

The European job market is going through an interesting shift. The service jobs are increasingly becoming English-language jobs for recently arrived migrants while the white collar job market has become very hostile to non-native language speakers and expats.
