The more I participate on these state mortality review committees, the less hope I have for addressing unfair, preventable pregnancy-related & fetal deaths. The deficit of basic evidence based knowledge is monumental. I don’t know if I will continue. There is no accountability.

@RJEpiOBWarrior Whew! Say it again! I was just having this conversation. It’s so disappointing and mind blowing that no one wants to truly change the issue.

@cclareMDMPH I dislike people not engaging in conversation in all meetings. I’d rather people just not come.

@cclareMDMPH I became conscious of this last month and started the change. People keep looking at me funny.

I would love my Black colleagues to eliminate the following words from their vocabulary: “pipeline” change to “pathway” and “stakeholder” change to “key interested party.” apa.org/about/apa/equi…

@AKLewkowitz If you say so. You had some questions that make me wonder if you understand the breadth of doula care and support. It’s worth every maternal health clinical practitioner to learn about what we learn & what we do.

@BusyBy For this one, after the birth, the doula went from being supportive to completely disregarding the patient's expression of pain, instead aggressively trying to convince her--against her wishes--not to get lidocaine. It was traumatic to all other members of the care team.

I am a huge fan of doulas and have advocated for universal access. But as care providers, doulas must refrain from allowing personal biases to affect their recs: i.e. don't advise your client to decline lidocaine for lac repair bc "you're strong enough for a true natural birth."

@AKLewkowitz Instead of assuming, you should pause and reflect that you may not know what that patient asked them to do. This is just 1 way y’all make it hard for doulas. ASSuming.

@AKLewkowitz The fact that you think our job stops once the baby is out let’s me know you have no idea what doulas do. YES! We educated them on every part of their perinatal experience including their options on the in case they tear. They choose. We support and advocate.

@kayewhitehead @ASALH @OMEGAPSIPHI Lastly, our BGLOs are political figures and advocates. You’d be surprised at the work we’re doing. The public would rather highlight other things like, not taking our conventions to areas. They want the general public to think we’re silent.

@kayewhitehead @ASALH @OMEGAPSIPHI 1st it’s a hostile and toxic space. Why would we take our conventions there for us to be harassed and to improve their economy? I believe our BGLO should look to convening in spaces where they need our money.

@apw_mdmph I’m pretty excited about this one. I recently encouraged my team to take the ACES survey to self reflect. It’s a great reminder that our history is important in every setting.

Looking forward to this conversation about integrating #ACEs into #prenatal and #womenshealth care We have the privilege of being in intimate spaces with our patients. Let’s be sure we see them fully, including their history
