@ClaesRafael @HKWrighty @daniellloyd1 @jorgepontedeira He did win the World Championship in '93. Although I think he shows the that the GC/classics split isn't voluntary better than almost anyone: he was an excellent classics rider but not a top GC rider, and then the reverse. He wasn't able to be both at once

Best result in a monument: Alberto Contador: 9th Nairo Quintana: 9th Chris Froome: 36th It's easy to forget that there was a generation or two where classics and Grand Tours were almost two entirely different disciplines. Whether you enjoy watching Tadej Pogačar dominate the one day classics or not, he has set a very good precedent for future pros - winners of Grand Tours can and probably should race monuments (even cobbled ones). That's the thought process that future greats will have as they're growing up, and that's got to be a good thing.

On 2 April 2026, I received the attached letter from a senior member of the UCI, without any prior communication. This morning, I have filed a formal complaint against the sender, with the UCI Ethics Commission, regarding this letter being sent to me.

@Staffanito @DaniNovarama @SandyofCthulhu Think about how time zones work. Spain is substantially to the west of those countries, so geographically it shouldn't be in the same time zone. With daylight savings, the zenith of the sun is well after 2pm in most of the country

@DaniNovarama @SandyofCthulhu Whut? Spain is in the central European time zone, along with France, Germany, Sweden etc. Has nothing to do with them eating later dinners. More likely the old habit of taking siesta during the day time.

The biggest culture shock I had in Spain was the dinner time. My wife and I would be walking around, feeling a little hungry at 7 pm say, and walk up to a restaurant. "Oh, no we're not open. Come back in 90 minutes." This didn't happen in Madrid or Barcelona. I assume because they are used to tourists so open "early" for them. But Cordoba and Aviles were flabbergasted we'd eat so soon. Even 8:30 seemed kind of rushed to them, and they preferred we'd come at 9-10pm, then spend like 2 hours eating. I was always taught if I had a big meal just before bed time it would keep me awake. I guess it could be an old wives tale, or maybe the Spanish just deal with it.

@Mazupilami2 @Thommadawn @julesgambit You can't seriously think "chess is a sport because mouse speed matters in bullet" is a convincing argument. It's the least important kind of chess and even there it's far less important than choosing moves - the best hyperbullet players are GMs, not pro gamers.

@Thommadawn @julesgambit Darts is stressful mentally, but the skill is physical. Chess is stressful physically, but the skill is mental. Look at it like this: Messi, LeBron, Bolt, etc. could tell me everything about their sport and I'd still be awful. If Magnus tells me the moves to play, I win

@ChrisPoole___ @TheDartsReferee He did (to an extent, he was still great) but also Humphries lost a ton of weight and rapidly ascended from middle of the pack to all-time great. Not clear how much of either was due to the weight change, and impossible to know what effect it would have on another player

@crotty32 @Tom_Gann You pay the tax on your net worth. Which in that case would presumably mean selling the house or a reverse mortgage (although that's a pretty unrealistic example, because generally people with all their money in their house would be below any proposed wealth tax threshold)

@crotty32 @Tom_Gann It's in the name - a tax on wealth. If you have a net worth above a certain value, you pay a certain % of the excess as a tax. Beyond that, debating the details is pointless, because we first have to make it politically feasible

@Xinirnix @BenjiNaesen @UCI_media Sylvan Adams openly admits that IPT is sportswashing, and a bunch of other teams are directly owned by nation states for no benefit other than improving their image. And the whole idea of sportswashing is to help the sport so fans will defend them like you're doing!

@sharks37 @tomdanielson Any team where he'd be unquestioned leader will be interested, and that's most teams because he's really strong. It just doesn't matter to a team like Movistar that he's a terrible teammate, because they're never going to ask him to be a domestique

I think he (Ayuso) stays in the Vuelta. They are just explaining the “situation” to the public as it looks a bit ridiculous right now. Basically a case of: guy doesn’t fit in team because he doesn’t want to give up his aspirations to help the riders currently winning. Team keep giving him chances, he keeps riding only for himself. Team gets mad, he gets mad. He finds new team and asks out of his contract. Team says ok but we will “punish” you by having to go to Vuelta and ride with your internal nemesis Almedia (who is riding better than you). Guy mad and returns the “punishment” with purposely sitting up when needed and then showing he could be helping by going and winning a stage he could help on.

@belaqua_shua @MikeMitdit @smilesinmay He called him a prick on Instagram at one point, which is about as close as he's ever got to an actual comment about series 1. @MikeMitdit @smilesinmay Defending John Barrowman's repeated exposure of his genitals in the workplace. In 2025. You should be embarrassed. To spell it out: many people were uncomfortable but he was a star and therefore they were afraid of being fired if they objected. The other leads had no such risk.

@ThePatriotUSMC @Please50Hold Graph 1 x-axis: 500,000 years Graph 2 x-axis: 120 years The rate of change is the problem. Faster change makes the climate a more unstable system, meaning more extreme weather events. And we've caused thousands of years worth of normal warming in a century.
