Green Party say they plan to ensure everyone has a minimum wage of £31,000pa. I run a business. I don’t earn that. I employ 2 people. They don’t earn that. The business I run doesn’t take in enough to pay that. I’d need to charge customers way more to afford that 🤷‍♂️. Or go bust.

i understand why ppl do small talk when they are first meeting someone, but why do some ppl do compulsive small talk all the time? my MIL just by default talks nonstop. “do you think all of that will fit in that suitcase? i always check my suitcase, don’t want to be lifting it on the plane. i take it to the gate and check it there. they let you check it for free!” “uber is here! last time i took an uber it was a prius. hard to get ubers at my house, have to call ahead.” “i talked to margaret. did i tell you that? she called me. she’s getting ready to go to the airport. 2pm fight for her. but she’s flying domestic. gets in in the evening.” but like basically nonstop for hours. never anything that needs to be said, always just kinda autobiographical and impossible to respond to with anything other than “mmmm.” it is very much the same as someone following me around with a television playing nonstop ads, but if i don’t kinda pay attention to the ads i am rude. not only can i now not have a normal conversation with my fiancé, i cannot even have interesting thoughts in my own mind.

You didn't answer my question? That's why you can't see that to others it's just a blurted thought. Why would anyone need to or want to know that the last uber she got was a prius? Or that she usually has to call ahead? Just put yourself in the recipients shoes for one moment, ask if you GENUINELY think it's interesting for the recipient. If it's not, you're just blurting random thoughts at them that they have to respond to. That's OP's point.

I don't just blurt out whatever random thought comes into my head without considering if the other person actually wants / needs to hear it?

If you think UBI will lead to purposelessness You are revealing that you believe **human meaning comes from economic productivity alone** We are not on earth to create shareholder value to to make GDP go up We are here to pursue virtue, glory, God All human societies knew this pre-modernity, and you know it too

No, there will be classes of asset holders who held assets pre-UBI. Talent will be meaningless when AI has higher intelligence and robotics higher dexterity/strength/precision than any human. There will be no opportunity to move into the asset class, UBI is a permanent underclass.
