@Amina_io @PeachHipped There's def plenty of fan stuff to do at AX - but the difference IMO is midwest cons still largely feel like an outgrowth of the hotel circuit, and yea, AX hasn't had that for ages.
But with the new wave of anime fans that 'hotel con' vibe is harder and harder to find.

@PeachHipped My first exposure to fan convention culture was in the Midwest. So, Anime Expo has always struck me as something else entirely. I've grown out of the con scene too but I never thought of AX as a convention. Even 15 years ago felt like an industry trade show.

I spoke to my therapist a little while ago about anime and cons and how I lost interest in going. They put it in a way, saying a lot of older people who attended cons and got into anime viewed it as a subculture, while a lot of people more recently view it as just a hobby.

I’ve been attending Anime Expo since 2002 and this year felt different. I don’t have the words to articulate it yet but it falls along the lines of loss of community.

@emperortoho @axiermundi Well, I mean, where I'm going is like - without Miku Fine wins anyhow, so I guess it was a 'what if Miku wasn't present for Season X' if that makes sense.
Like if Miku is lost ater S4 before S5, kind of thing.

@emperortoho @axiermundi Without Miku, Hibiki is overwhelmed by Durandal/Fusion in S1; Dies in S2; fails to realize she wants to move past trauma in S3 (and dies to Carol without the Silly Throw); becomes God Host in S4; ends up Shem Host instead in S5 as the only other candidate.

@emperortoho @axiermundi Oh absolutely. I mean, my fav moment in S1 is Literally Everyone but Miku Supports Hibiki > Still getting overwhelmed by Durandal.
Miku comes in with the HIBIKIIIIIIIII and boom, Hibiki instantly gains control and saves the world.

@emperortoho @axiermundi But from S2 onwards the Anime Trio steadily fades away, as do the little moments. I do wonder what a Symphogear that had stayed with just the Traffic Trio + Miku for 5 seasons looks like.
Mind you I love Maria & Zababies. But I want to see that other world too.

@emperortoho @axiermundi It's the consequence of elevating the Dango crew - each season had to juggle the main 7 PLUS villain plot development and that was too much for 13 episodes.
It's part of why S1 is so strong to me. We get huge focus on the main 4 (HibiMikuTsubaChris), and even the side chars

there's nothing i hate more than when a bad parent gets any sort of redemption, the Heiki Hecchara scene could've been one of the best ones in the series if it didn't revolve around this bastard

@forthestorm1 @nanuha_m I mean, they had other pieces there for sure - there's seeds of XV in both seasons - but yea. GX is fun but there's a lot of idiot ball. Things fire off way harder again in AXZ onward, and also Carol & the Autoscorers are great. But poor Hamster brain.

@nanuha_m you kinda hit the nail on the head there G was supposed to be the end it wrapped everything up rather well so when they got the greenlight for GX they kinda had to figure out on the fly what they were doing with it with i would say not enough time
