@Brian_nonumbers @McWrightFace @natalie_Zion_ @PolitlcsUK @StanisJenna National screening, what they've ruled against, is the testing of everyone. The same way that breast cancer screeening involves calling in everyone above a certain age. This is why I asked what you meant by screening because the UK has never had full screening for porstate cancer

🚨 NEW: The NHS has ruled against national prostate cancer screening because treatment would "cause more harm than good" - including loss of erections It is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with 12,000 deaths every year

@parochena @ShivaniM_KC They can go and ask for a psa test. The decisions is just that the nhs isnt going to ask patients to come in for one

@ShivaniM_KC To be fair… (as a woman), if I were them, I’d want all the evidence shown to me and the right to make my own decision. Shouldn’t they also have that right? They should be allowed to ask for your opinion, but they will have their own too.

I'll say one more thing at the risk of being cancelled Telling men that there's no point screening for prostate cancer because only a few men will die from it and you can't tell who will and who wont die, therefore it's better not to look in the first place because you probably won't die but you may have unnecessary surgery with complications.. ...doesn't work highly intelligent folk don't understand this concept. We need a better way to convey the evidence to men.

@Brian_nonumbers @McWrightFace @natalie_Zion_ @PolitlcsUK @StanisJenna Thsi is exactly why I clarified. They arent suggesting removing something that already exists. A national screening programme would mean asking all men over a certain age to get tested. Thats very different to testing men who come in and have risk factors or are symptomatic

@DrMaximus_NYC @PolitlcsUK Theres no screening for ovarian cancer for the exact same reason. There is cervical cancer screening cus theres is a test sensitive and reliable enough for it

@PolitlcsUK The UK: “it’s cheaper to just let old men die. They won’t do this for cervical or ovarian cancer though.”

@balls_pepper @PolitlcsUK Psa testing has a false neg rate of 75% compared to the 10% of mammograms. Also 40% of older men have some levels of cancerous cells in their prostate even if it never develops or spreads. Cant say the same for breast cancer

@kickflipamy @PolitlcsUK They dont do ovarian cancer screening for a similar reason to prostate cancer. Breast cancer occurs in a much younger population. The only saying is that youre more likely to die with prostate cancer than from prostate cancer

@PolitlcsUK Breast cancer? Get them off. Ovarian? Whip 'em out. Prostate cancer? Oh no, can't sacrifice the erection. It's more manly to just die.

@MPC3675 @PolitlcsUK Thats very strange that he said no, protocol is you can request it without any symptoms after 50. However the test is useless. Only 25% of people who test positive will actually have cancer and 20% of people who test negative do have prostate cancer

@PolitlcsUK I went to my GP for a test for prostate cancer as I’m of that age now and he refused point blank to do it, either by blood test or a finger up the jacksie as I didn’t have symptoms. I paid for a private test in the end, which thankfully was negative.

@SpartanTsg @PolitlcsUK There are very very few countries that do national screening for prosate cancer. Even the US, which loves to make uo procedures to make money, doesnt do psa screening

@PolitlcsUK …sure and yet it’s ok to give antidepressants to people that cause loss of erections. For many it’s permanent after stopping medication. It’s clearly a funding issue for the most part.

@PolitlcsUK This is exactly why men’s health gets missed. Screening may have risks, but telling men “we’ve decided for you” is not going to reassure anyone

@Zeitsturm Hot take: they're both performing and pandering. One as an ally, another as a coon. In this case, I kinda rate the ally more, as she is visibly trying. Meanwhile Mamdani is dressed like an immature child

sorry but im still pissed off at podium sundays psychoanalysing lando from a vogue article, acting like that interview is in any way comparable to conversations with a sports psychologist and overall just dismissing him. now they’re using him as an example? while at the time they did a whole video talking about how lando doesn’t have championship mindset? lol

@anthonytheminty @BiasonDarci @aliciaandrz Not quite. Lets say youre maintaining an obese weight eating 2400 calories a day and no excercjse, you would have to drop to 1600 and exercise to lose the weight but then you could go back to probs 2400 with little excercise.

@BiasonDarci @aliciaandrz what happens if you stop dieting and exercising? all weight loss treatments are life long. and in theory glp1s can help patients change their habits and develop a healthier body w more balanced hormones and hunger cues before they stop taking them

the GLP-1 discourse around weight loss is weird because I went from a lifetime of food & alcohol addiction to freedom on the lowest dose. I used to eat until I felt sick. I used to wake up on the weekends & want to start drinking immediately. all that noise is gone. so frankly I don’t care how I’m perceived. these drugs are a miracle & weight loss is the tip of the iceberg.
