Among the crashes registered in the past week, 2 particularly tragic incidents involved motorcycles, one in Manafwa & another in Buyende. 10 lives were lost in these crashes with each motorcycle carrying five people who all died instantly. Many road crashes continue to result from careless overtaking and speeding, which accounted for 51% of the total crashes. In response, a number of interventions are being undertaken, including targeted traffic enforcement operations conducted over the past week. Offenders apprehended: • Driving DMC 325 • Violation of traffic direction:41 • Riding without a helmet 139 • Dangerous loading 92 • Pillion riding 118 • Operating without a valid license 53 • Illegal modification 83 • Drink driving 11 • Abandoned/broken-down vehicles 10 • Violating route chart 6 878 offenders were apprehended These operations will continue as efforts intensify to restore sanity on our roads.
