@CoffeeBeansDev I think there's a place for quick dev cycles, but I feel like most dev advice is framed in a "quick way to make this your full-time job" and while that advice is cool it doesn't fit a lot of us. I want to make the game I want to make; it's art and I'll let it cook.

"Isn't spending years on a first game too much?" not if you actually care about giving players a nice product and experience, I want to take it seriously

@ssrwives @HedProtag I'm new around here, let me try to understand. you paid an artist for work and used all of their artistic direction for your own game and now you're mad said artist is using the same artist direction on their own game? Someone catch me up if I'm off base here.

@squigalish @Pirat_Nation A lot of them are chasing money to fund their actual passion projects if it makes you feel any better.. Hit indie games are rare, most indie devs are barely making it and need to atleast try to pay the bills before reality hits us in the face.

@Pirat_Nation Not beating the allegations that indies are prone to making the same trend chasing slop to cash in and not because they want to make something actually good. I get it, but it's disappointing to see indies heading in the same direction that AAA did.

@sugarbets_ @bigspooper @LanceVader @OVTweetmarck We’ve gained skills and toolsets to better enjoy and play games over our lives.. some people might not take gaming “as serious” as others but I’d consider the things I’ve learned about gaming through gaming a skill set.

@bigspooper @LanceVader @OVTweetmarck Replay ability is where my head goes for this. Playing a popular song will work at a wedding, but will people play the same game level over and over?

One thing I think that is good to admit and note as someone who enjoys video games greatly and does not think them inherently bad in any sense is that a downside to them is unlike many hobbies, they produce no lasting product (compare to say writing, painting, and the like).
