If they were trying to say, "We should never forget that we fight to protect those who cannot protect themselves, not out of hatred for our enemies." They failed to say it, but it's a valid message. If they were trying to say, "Fighting bad, we should try to understand these mindless killing machines instead of stopping them from hurting our loved ones!" Less valid, but they did convey that message. Either way, yeah, they suck as writers.
