@jesskcoleman @JomboyMedia Well, that’s the rule they are enforcing here and have been enforcing since the pitch clock became a thing. Pitchers cannot come fully set until the batter is alert to them.

Unless I'm missing something, this is not a written rule. The requirement that a batter be alert with 8 seconds is a written rule. The requirement that a pitcher comes set after the batter is alert is an interpretation of (i) the batter requirement and (ii) the rule against quick pitches. There is no specific "pitcher must wait to come set" rule.

@jesskcoleman @JomboyMedia What isn’t in the regulations? If the pitcher repeatedly comes set before the batter is alert to the mound, the pitcher will be charged with a ball, just like any other pitch clock violation.

@jesskcoleman @JomboyMedia The pitcher cannot come fully set before the batter looks up at the mound. So he’s taking his time, making it so that the pitchers only have 8 seconds at most to come set and pitchers.

I don’t think it’s a “big” deal but I think it’s a small piece of the overall attitude and perspective that made this USA team so cringe.
