Fascinating article from the @guardian. In the @VIPStudy we are working with the police to improve the mental health of older crime victims. This is another great example of the benefits of non-traditional forms of mental health outreach.

@JessSatchell @DrJoBillings @VariDrennan @TabithaCraston Huge congrats Jess! 🎉 This is such an important area of research, concerning an age group that, as you say, has been very much neglected (up until now!). Bringing the literature together like this paints such a clear picture of how much crime impacts older people.

Important report from @VictimsComm on impact of fraud on victims. We’ve found in the @VIPStudy of older crime victims that fraud and distraction burglary are particularly distressing. Feelings of shame, self-blame and embarrassment are barriers to seeking help.

Today @VictimsComm has published her victims’ experience annual survey & the results are unsurprising and bleak. Over a third of respondents would not report a crime again. That speaks volumes. Here’s my response on what Government must do urgently to prioritise victims.
