What is Telugu new year? It is Bharatiya (Hindu) New Year, in Karnataka and Andhra Telangana it is called Ugadhi, derived from Yuga. Otherwise, Gudhi Padwa, Chaitra Pratipada, Chaitrai, Ugadhi - all means the same- starting of the Bharatiya calendar.

We are a tropical country, yet ~70-90% of us are Vitamin D deficient. Reason is not just about staying indoors, It is about Melanin & Latitudinal Adaptation. Melanin is a natural sunscreen. In the deep tropics, high melanin was an evolutionary advantage to prevent skin cancer. Problem with Melanin is that it is too good at its job. It blocks the UV-B rays required to synthesize Vitamin D. An Indian person needs 3-5x more sun exposure than a fair-skinned European to produce the same amount of Vitamin D. Cos of modern clothing & the shadow of urban pollution (which filters out UV-B), an Indian living in a city like Del/Blr can stand in the sun for an hour & still produce almost zero Vitamin D. Vitamin B12 is produced only by bacteria, not plants. Historically, We did not have a B12 problem cos of dirty water (please do not get offended) & organic farming. During old times, B12 came from the trace soil & unsterilized water on vegetables. As India became cleaner (using RO water filters & pesticides that kill soil bacteria), the natural source of B12 was sanitized out of the food chain. Most of us are functionally vegetarian but B12 starved cos our modern hygiene has outpaced our dietary supplementation.
