What a perfect allegory for the state of Ireland. Two young Irish men properly dealing with a hostile foreigner who is screaming, making violent threats and spitting on people. Followed immediately by a idiot boomer coming in to chastise them for doing what is necessary, and when told by a woman he was threatening and spitting on people, he says "I don't care". The sooner that generation moves on the sooner we can get around to fixing the mess they created.

The key to saving the environment is not looking backward, it’s moving forward. I realized this the first time I visited Italy twenty years ago. Everything was clean and green. The rivers sparkled. The lesson for me was obvious: the answer is not underdevelopment. The answer is progress. When China was poor, the air was so polluted that people could barely see the blue sky. Today, blue skies have returned to their cities. Development does not only create wealth, it also provides the resources needed to restore and protect the environment. Some environmentalists want us to preserve every aspect of our biodiversity, including the mosquitoes for example, so that researchers can fly in once every ten years from their universities (which build particle accelerators and billion-dollar laboratories with their pocket money), study our ecosystems, and count how many people died from dengue outbreaks. They want to buy our air through carbon credits. If carbon credits were such a great deal, they would be selling them to us, not the other way around. Cleaning every river, lake, and water source in El Salvador, and ensuring they remain clean and sparkling, would cost roughly $12 billion. Where is that money supposed to come from without economic development? Carbon credits? The path forward for our country is the path of Japan and Singapore, not the path of the Congo.

✨ THE FDA FINALLY GETS ONE RIGHT ✨ The shady Korean beauty forum era is officially behind me. 😎 For the better part of twenty years, I have been sourcing my sunscreen from Europe and Asia. Not because I enjoy haunting obscure Korean skincare forums at odd hours, cross-referencing ingredient lists in languages I do not speak, and paying international shipping on products that may or may not clear customs without incident. I did it because the formulations available there are genuinely superior to anything the American market has been permitted to carry, and I was not willing to compromise on sun protection while the FDA took its time doing whatever it is the FDA does. The active ingredient I was seeking is bemotrizinol. If you have spent any time in Korean skincare or European pharmacies, you already know it. The rest of the world has had access to it since 2000. The FDA approved it on June 9th, 2026. First new sunscreen active ingredient added to the OTC monograph since the late 1990s. Twenty-six years. The original application was filed in 2005 and went nowhere for nearly two decades under a regulatory framework apparently designed to ensure that ingredients already in widespread international use never accumulated the precise paperwork the agency required. Bemotrizinol has a 27-year safety record across Europe, Asia, and Australia. Minimal skin absorption, plasma concentrations well below the FDA’s own threshold for systemic exposure concern and approved in the EU, Australia, China, Korea, and Canada long before most of us in the USA 🇺🇸 got word. What made it worth the gray market hassle? it is a true broad-spectrum filter in a single molecule, covering both UVA and UVB without requiring a stabilizer cocktail just to remain functional in sunlight. Avobenzone, which has been the primary chemical UVA option available to Americans, degrades rapidly under UV exposure and needs other ingredients propping it up to stay effective. Bemotrizinol maintains over 90% of its protective capacity after prolonged sun exposure, and unlike avobenzone, it can be combined with zinc oxide, which means formulators can now build genuinely elegant broad-spectrum products without the white cast or the stability trade-offs. This is a good outcome for American consumers. It took an embarrassingly long time, and it happened in spite of the regulatory apparatus rather than because of it, but it happened. The FDA spent a generation protecting pharmaceutical market positions while the rest of the world wore better sunscreen. At least they got there.
