You are taking the literal definition of a New Yorker to be "someone who lives in New York." Being a New Yorker goes far beyond that. It's pride in your city. It's being welcoming to those who travel to the city. It's being respectful to everyone. It's helping people. It's rallying around your community and neighbors in times of need and support. The videos you are seeing are of people who do not posses those values and thus are not New Yorkers the way most of us are New Yorkers.

Can somebody explain to me what “not a New Yorker” means. I’ve seen lots of New Yorkers saying all the people rioting and fighting and attacking Spurs fans and destroying the city aren’t New Yorkers but I’m pretty sure they are New Yorkers so what does that mean? I’m confused
