Afghan man DESTROYS Farage’s goat herder claims with pic of himself herding goats.
Hameed Shuja@hameedshuja
Left: Me and my goats in Afghanistan. Right: Me after my PhD from one of the UK's top universities. Conclusion: Farage is an ignorant coward who thrives on hate mongering and racial stereotypes.

@Fox_Claire Was just a joke. I know you're against the euthanasia law. Though that law and the abortion one do go hand in hand as progressive catnip.
English

@LeftBrexit Oh bugger off. Every week for months I've argued against this Bill in Lords, let alone organised public debates on AD. Maybe you haven't bothered keeping up. If you've decided your disagreement on abortion trumps all else, fine, but shouldn't blind you to facts on broader issues
English

I was furious that one Noble and Learned Lord (ie a top KC) accused those of us scrutinising the Assisted Dying Bill of wanting to avoid any vote because we'd lose, as happened on Wednesday night on decriminalising abortion. What a cheap culture-wars point, implying everyone opposing AD is just the usual suspects/anti-abortion crowd. Not true but also a snide attempt at suggesting that there is a herd-like opposition to AD, when the truth is the Bill is a mess, whatever side someone is coming from politically.

There's a new decency in Downing Street now McSweeney's gone. Instead of echoing far right bigotry, Keir Starmer is standing against it over the Nick Timothy affair. In my column for Tribune I argue that a new dividing line has opened up at Westminster:

@FlyingRadical @OborneTweets Do the Muslims in Britain have any tribal grievances?
English

@OborneTweets She’s bringing her weird tribal grievances towards Muslims from Nigeria into UK politics. It stinks.

MEE reports that after endorsing Nick Timothy's attack on British Muslims, Kemi Badenoch seems not to have sent out a message marking Eid al-Fitr. Leaders of other main parties, apart from Reform, all did so. Badenoch HAS marked Hanukkah and Diwali.

Literally allowed to kill your baby up to birth = Handmaid’s Tale
Dominant public display from religion that puts women in sacks = not Handmaid’s Tale
LBC@LBC
'The Handmaid's Tale was meant to be science-fiction, not a manifesto for a future government!' Although steps towards de-criminalising abortion have been taken, @stellacreasy warns people not to let their guard down, and keep fighting.

Calling basic kindness “vapid nonsense” is a strange hill to die on. The fact that small gestures bother you this much says more about your outlook than anyone else’s. People who are actually “well-adjusted” don’t feel threatened by friendliness.
You might find that stepping outside your own echo chamber (and, occasionally, your house) makes the world look a lot less offensive and a lot more human.

It’s Eid today, and I just watched 3 strangers in a café wish a mother and her daughter “Happy Eid.”
Those wishing weren’t Muslim. It didn’t matter.
Yet again moments like this are what make London special: people choosing connection over division, and kindness over the noise that tries to pull us apart.

@HasAhmed_ @CharlieHowarth1 You can tweet outside you know.

@CharlieHowarth1 Must be so sad being a loner and miserable 24/7. You should go outside it’s a nice day out. People are more cheerful.
