@LeahRay44 @FactsAboutTexas My first East Texas rainstorm I stood out on the porch staring at it. My buddy who was local asked why I was watching it rain. I said: “That’s not ‘rain’. We have ‘rain’ in California. That’s some Wrath-of-God type shit!”

You are absolutely part of the fight. Voting is only one dimension. The best way for you to fight is to thrive. Be an example of what an immigrant or refugee is supposed to look/act like. Serve as that example. Become self-supporting contributors. The agencies can annoy you, they can’t really stop you.

It's funny how many people mention the big things, but I'm starting to think it's the everyday things we'll notice most. Reliable electricity, orderly traffic, and not having to constantly think about contingency plans for everything. Those little things add up to a lot of peace of mind.

We’ve done a lot of research on the big things, weather, schools, crime, natural disasters, red/blue states, but there are so many small everyday things we still don’t fully understand. What’s one thing about daily American life that you think every newcomer should know? Or… what’s something that surprised you about American culture, even if you grew up in the USA? Things like: - Grocery stores & food culture - Friendships and community - Church life and Sunday routines - Healthcare, doctors, insurance - Small talk, manners, or social norms - Holidays, seasons, or family traditions We’re still in South Africa waiting on our flight, but we want to arrive prepared and respectful of our new home. Drop your honest answers below, the good, the surprising, and the practical. I'm reading every comment and taking notes! 📝 Who knows… we might become neighbours one day 😊❤️🇿🇦➡️🇺🇸

Do you believe in signs from God? Have you ever experienced one yourself? This is how our journey truly began… On 6 February 2025 my husband was cleaning his bakkie when he found a US dime inside. The coin clearly said “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”. We had never seen it before and had no idea how it got there. The very next day, 7 February, President Trump signed Executive Order 14204. My husband saw it on X and immediately felt the dime was a clear sign from God. We prayed deeply about it because his brother, who had a stroke the year before and needed full-time care wouldn't be able to leave. Then on 8 February, his brother suddenly passed away in hospital while the whole family was praying around him. It was heartbreaking… but we knew in that moment God had answered our prayers and opened the door. His brother was now safe with the Lord, free from all pain and suffering. We sent our email of interest to PRM as soon as it was released, and in February 2026 we had our first contact. We are still here in South Africa, waiting on our refugee flight in the next 2–4 weeks, standing in complete awe at how God has guided every single step. Thank you for walking through this miracle with us.

@Zayin_7_119 @abwinkler999 The residents of Buffalo are maniacs on the subject. Bones or boneless, which wing place has the best, which are hottest, which dipping sauce, etc. They’re famous for it.

@Zayin_7_119 @EGANSgrammie Most Americans are pretty terrible at recognizing foreign accents, i.e.: Can’t tell Scottish from Irish or Aussie from Cockney, so don’t be surprised if you actually get asked where you’re from constantly.

🤣 Oh, there will be no hiding where I'm from. My accent is VERY Afrikaans. Our children, on the other hand, have spent years playing online games with American kids and chatting for hours, so they've picked up little bits of an American accent along the way. It's the cutest thing when I hear it. ❤️🇺🇸

@abwinkler999 @Zayin_7_119 If you move to Buffalo, specifically, the first opinions you’ll get, whether you want them or not, will be about wings.

@meowsternator I think we can, if we’re describing a British person, i.e. “Piers Morgan is a wanker”.

Yes, it’s hard to describe how much so. Some universal things you’ll notice everywhere: Infrastructure is much better, consistently, especially power grid. Outages are rare, usually weather-related, and brief. Traffic is busy, sometimes congested, but generally very orderly. It’ll take you a little bit to catch on to who expects a tip and how much, things like that.

@Lefty_Kitty That's something I've been noticing more and more. Americans keep talking about how completely different Texas, New York, California, the Midwest, and the South are from each other.

@EGANSgrammie @Zayin_7_119 Garage sales as well. The advantage to thrift stores is that they’re open whenever you want to go, you don’t have to wait for opportunity. The myriad things needful to run a “starter” residence: spoons, towels, basic furniture, etc. are all available there cheaply.

This video came at exactly the right time… 😭🙏 The waiting has been really heavy today. It’s been over a week since our tentative travel email and we still haven’t heard anything about cultural orientation. We don’t know the exact date or even which city we’re going to. Packing feels almost impossible right now, what do we keep and what do we get rid off when we have no idea when we’re leaving or what the weather will be like? Some moments we’re excited, other moments the uncertainty weighs heavy. But this powerful reminder to take that first step of faith even when the path isn’t clear… it strengthened my heart again. We will keep trusting God and walking forward when He opens the door. God bless the USA. ❤️🇺🇸

This powerful video “The Walk” from UFC Freedom 250 hit hard tonight. A man must still stand ready — even when the path ahead isn’t fully clear. We’re still in South Africa waiting on God’s exact timing, but when the call comes we will walk forward with courage like the pioneers we are. Link to the video in the comments below 👇 God bless the USA. ❤️🇿🇦➡️🇺🇸
