Here comes another load of nonsense. Do you even know who he's playing? If I told you he's playing the most mighty general in your history, do you think he'd look like that? 😅 Chinese aesthetics are different. If you like this kind of thing, feel free to look at all related content. But your Western culture also prefers muscular men. They really went to great lengths to smear the ground in the dark.

China cracks down on pretty boys in media Recently Chinese costume drama Pursuit of Jade 逐玉 gained high ratings and viewership. This attracted the attention of censors. National Radio and Television Administration called a meeting w various TV stations, criticizing TV trends focusing on looks, demands stop idol/looks worshipping, establishing healthy aesthetic etc. IMO the issue is disconnect between people who watch TV Dramas and people who criticize TV Dramas. TV Drama audience is primarily women. TV shows usually cater to their viewers' tastes. People who criticize the prevalence of pretty boys in TV shows are usually men but they don't watch those TV dramas anyway. Of course the boomers in the censorship department always err in the direction of maximum control.

yan wei@yanwei31285660

🇨🇳🇺🇸 NASA’s Moon Flyby Just Reminded Us: America’s Living in the Past, China’s Building the Future 🚀 After checking out NASA’s latest lunar flyby and honestly? It felt a bit nostalgic. Like watching someone flip through an old photo album. America’s still chasing the ghost of Apollo, while China’s quietly building something new. Beijing isn’t out here chest-thumping about beating anyone to the Moon. There’s no dramatic press conferences, no “race” narrative pushed from their end. They just... keep doing the work. Far side landing, done. ✅ Lunar samples nobody else had, done. ✅ Chang’e-7 heading to the south pole this summer like it’s just another Tuesday on the schedule. That’s what centralized long-term planning looks like in practice: budgets locked in, timelines held, no sudden pivots because an election changed hands or a contractor came back asking for another few billion. No silly shutdowns either! The hardware speaks for itself too. Long March 10 nailed its engine test. Dream Boat ran an abort scenario under maximum stress and came through clean. The Lanyue lander’s been practicing crater touchdowns on simulated terrain. Even the new spacesuits have a certain quiet confidence about them, slimmer, functional and designed like they actually expect to use them. Then there’s Artemis. NASA’s own administrator basically floated the possibility of more delays, again, just recently. The Space Launch System finally got crew aboard, which is something, but it’s a rocket built by committee, assembled from a patchwork of contractors, years over schedule and staggeringly expensive. The lander situation is still a work in progress, SpaceX and Blue Origin are both “on it,” which is reassuring until you realise that’s been the answer for a while now and targeting the south pole sounds bold on paper, but it’s genuinely brutal terrain, radiation, extreme cold, technical nightmare. Meanwhile China’s first crewed landing is aimed at the near side, the same familiar ground Armstrong walked. Smart, methodical and not flashy. China’s not playing the race game. They’re playing a longer one, building real, durable capability. Shared technology across military and civilian programs, consistent cadence and no weight of legacy to lug around. America keeps saying this time it’ll be different, this time they’ll stay on the Moon and maybe they will. But right now, one program is walking steadily forward and the other keeps finding new ways to catch its own feet. Space is absolutely big enough for both. But momentum is real and right now the steady hand is the one making progress. So, genuine question, is this quietly the moment the torch passes? Or does NASA still have the runway to pull it together?🇺🇸

Although the Qing dynasty was established by the Manchus, it regarded itself as the legitimate successor of the Chinese Empire. After entering Beijing, the Qing maintained the administrative system and civil service examinations of the Ming dynasty, and preserved the Forbidden City and existing imperial gardens, rather than destroying them. On the contrary, they expanded them—for example, transforming the Yuanmingyuan into the “Garden of Ten Thousand Delights”—to demonstrate respect for Chinese culture and political symbols. As recorded in the Qing Shi Gao, Geography Section: “The capital’s palaces followed the Ming system; the halls of the Forbidden City were never damaged.” Moreover, the Qianlong Shilu records: “The emperor ordered the Ministry of Works to construct the pavilions and halls in the gardens, adopting scenic designs from China and abroad to complete the Garden of Ten Thousand Delights.” This shows that the Qing dynasty greatly expanded the gardens while preserving the Ming foundations. Qing emperors also honored the Ming imperial tombs. During his southern inspection tour, the Shunzhi Emperor performed rituals at the Ming tombs. As recorded in the Shunzhi Shilu: “Following the precedent of the former emperors, he paid homage to the Ming tombs to demonstrate the legitimacy of succession.” In addition, after taking Beijing, the Qing punished Li Zicheng and his remaining followers. According to the Qing Shi Gao, Biography of Li Zicheng: “At the beginning of Shunzhi’s reign, the remnants of Li Zicheng and his party were exterminated to restore order to the capital.” The Han Chinese rebel Li Zicheng had incited uprisings across the country; he led militias to capture Beijing, causing the Chongzhen Emperor to commit suicide and the collapse of the Ming Empire. The Qing then took the opportunity to march south and consolidate their rule, maintaining order in China. By preserving and expanding the Ming palaces and gardens, honoring the Ming imperial tombs, and punishing invaders, the Qing strengthened their claim to legitimacy. With 70–75% of its officials being Han Chinese, the Qing was not only a Manchu regime but also the rightful inheritor of Chinese civilization.

Had the pleasure of visiting the (new) Summer Palace in Beijing the other day ⛲️ It was originally established in the Ming Dynasty but later greatly expanded by the Qing Dynasty's Manchu emperors. Just as with many Chinese cultural heritage sites, the old Summer Palace (圓明園 yuanmingyuan) had been destroyed several times, first during the 2nd Opium War when Britbongs and Escargots (the French) looted and razed it, second during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. The smaller garden next door, yiheyuan (頤和園) became the new Summer Palace. It turned into public property after the ROC overthrew the Qing. The PRC continued protecting it after yet another round of dynasty change. A sea of people, many clad in traditional royal Chinese dresses, crowded the place when my friend Jonas and I came here this past Sunday (never underestimate crowds in China on weekends) and witnessed grand imperial Chinese architecture and gardens surrounded by drab Soviet-style buildings characteristic of Beijing. The contrast between different Chinese epochs was striking. Join me as I share stories and observations while strolling around the beautiful grounds, including a bit on Naruto! Hint: It has to do with Sasuke's "Kirin" move.
