So I’m finally going to share my happy news 📢 im going to be starting a new job, as a lecturer in Inclusion, Childhood and Youth with @Education_Leeds @UniversityLeeds in the new year. I can’t express how happy and excited i am to start & to meet students and colleagues.

So sad to hear of the passing of #BrendanKennelly What a delightful and talented man, we are the richer for his life. Condolences to his family.

Ethics! I LOVE ethics. We see so clearly what happens when an ethics process has not been undertaken. When there are lived/living experience voices, you need bloody ETHICS!! People are not fodder/data/content!

@MoveMary "Your bill is in the post!?" 😀😀 Life is what it is. We play the hand we are dealt with. I refuse to dwell on me when it is so much more fun watching my grandkids going into the world proudly with their heads held high & achieving their ambitions.

So, I have a telephone consultation with the consultant on Friday, just inside my 14 day limit. We've seen the test results & he should be able to diagnose formally then. I am truly not anxious - what will be will be. Just means refocusing priorities. 🙏

@IDickson258 I think your pessimism is justified, so that is probably realism. But I think you have a role in raising the questions and shouting your experience and making it as uncomfortable as possible for those change resistors to maintain their current course.

@MoveMary Forgive my pessimism, but I don't see this happening yet. There is not the vision, commitment or drive in this #carereview to make the necessary reforms. I think too many people have too much invested in the care system to enable change to happen naturally without legislation.

1. Researching in the dusty recesses of my own head looking at my time growing up in and working in care across the last 70 years or so for my "book". My mind settled on the time I was asked by the AD to work for a time as a team leader in a girls' remand home in the late 70's>

@IDickson258 And that is probably what someone will be tweeting about 40 years from now, saying, " how could we not have consulted the children themselves, it was so obvious and such an abuse of their rights" Now is the time to put that right.

@MoveMary I still don't believe children in care, particularly children in secure settings - in health care, children's services and the criminal justice system - are properly consulted and listened to. that is an ongoing battle some of us have been involved in fighting over many years on.

4. I recall girls spending months locked up in this place because there were simply no "placements" available for them. Their liberty taken away because the department had nowhere to send them. My own sister had absconded from there decades before but was never caught! Memories..

@roisinmeaney Roisín it's a tough one, loving them and wanting something different for yourself and them is such an energy draining struggle. May you have acceptance, serenity hope and love for your journey with them, through this phase of your life. Courage my friend.❤
