The government is very aware of who I am and what I do; they should be - I’ve worked on counterterrorism issues for the UN, State, DOS, DHS, and more under the Obama, Trump I, and Biden administrations. ISIS, Army of God, and all the run of the mill Neo-Nazi organizations are, too — see above as per why. So feel free to keep harassing away, and add me to all the lists you’d like. I’m afraid you’re a bit late to the game, but your time is valuable, so just doing my best to help you out here. This has been a PSA.

Madelaine is absolutely right, and it’s worth pointing out that when legal, safe care is restricted, desperation and backdoor methods prevail (see: coat-hangers). This goes beyond “legal restrictions,” however; social stigma and shame are highly significant as well (especially for ‘anti-abortion’ women who — often — seek out secret or DIY termination to avoid community consequences). I could say more, but I’ll leave it here: 1) my mother was raised in a fundamentalist Christian milieu, and was forced to undergo an illegal, secretive DIY abortion she did not even want that nearly killed her (premarital pregnancy) 2) my uncle was a reproductive care provider who was assassinated at his church by anti-abortion fundamentalists. He treated many women from the ranks of his eventual assassins in secret for decades, and after they finally managed to kill him, his clinic closed — the last in its region. Since then, dangerous and unethical DIY cases like this have spiked to unimaginably horrific numbers.

@jtheleast Do I think a woman mutilating herself (with a serious risk of her own death) in secret should be punished? No. Do you want to punish people who try to commit suicide?

Ok lads, let’s practice some theory of mind. You are a lady who discovers she is pregnant because her period is late. So roughly 3-6 weeks pregnant. Uhoh! You absolutely don’t want it. Do you; a) take a pill as soon as possible to end the pregnancy b) wait for the morning sickness, the visible swelling, stretch marks, and difficulties with mobility and weight before getting round to an invasive and painful surgical late-term abortion 97% of women do A. The other 3% are dealing with horrendous health complications and fetal abnormalities.

I don’t care what you think about Mamdani as a politician — it’s so, so rare that non-Muslims in the US are exposed to anything about Islamic spiritually, not a propagandistic conflict frame. Beautiful description and display of Ramadan’s purpose, but to add a point here: one purpose of the month is empathy as spiritual obligation owed to one another and God. Empathy must be cultivated, and one must despite the difficult struggle, actively practice it: particularly those for whom empathy is hardest to find, who seemingly don’t “deserve” compassion — — those seen as beneath us in any / all forms, the most marginalized, disgraced, beyond redemption, dehumanized. To paraphrase in Christianity’s terms: ‘there but for the grace of God go I.’

Earlier this week, I broke fast at Rikers Island with New Yorkers in custody, Department of Correction staff, Commissioner Stanley Richards, and Councilmember Yusef Salaam. It was a night that will stay with me for quite some time. People sharing what little they have: breaking bread, offering prayer, making space for one another’s dignity even in the hardest place. In a system too often defined by what it takes, I was reminded of what it means to give—mercy, dignity, and humanity. May we extend that mercy as far as we can. Eid Mubarak to all.

“The Sirens We Remember” ✍🏻I wrote a piece for @newlinesmag – quite long but a personal one – on an overlooked dimension of the war: its psychological & social imprints, how it recalls past traumas & collective memory of #Gulf, based on my own experience. newlinesmag.com/first-person/i…

I'm so tired. Israel is one of the most evil countries in the world right now and Jewish people are individuals with a wide variety of thoughts and feelings and I, for one, am not confused about the link between antisemitism and every other form of racism, especially Islamophobia

Look, if you're gonna throw in with the right-wing antisemites do it with your whole chest, don't pretend this is about Palestine or the Iranians or Arabs writ large because those guys fucking hate us. No one should be confused about this. They're actually quite loud about it

For the first time in 60 years, Palestinians are being barred from praying at Al Aqsa mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam. This morning, Palestinians tried to pray Eid right outside and were brutally attacked by the Israeli Occupation Forces.

The long dreaded day has finally arrived. Baby Satan learned how to unlock the door. I will never again know solitude — bathtub or freezer, to the depths of hell itself.

I went back to the US to visit my parents. They just told me that our dog Madison ("Maddie") died last night. She was 16. I'm devastated. We loved her so much. A Loyal, smart, & - if rather wilful and rambunctious - kind and loving dog. And part of the family in every sense.

Today I went to the grocery story with my dad and we (inadvertently) walked through the dog food aisle before we left, and then we just started crying together when we got back to the car.
