If the FSD was driving the car at almost 60 mph when passing that speed sign, why do you assume that FSD would not continue into the wall at full speed? Perhaps it was confused and “thought” it was on the highway below, going straight ahead, therefore no need to slow down for the right turn?

it's a yellow speed sign, which is a recommendation for a safe speed to take the actual turn at. It's not saying anything besides "when you get to that curve, we suggest taking it at 15mph" it's not saying "woah there, 15mph is the fastest you can go for this entire stretch." they post very low recommendations to account for the most top-heavy vehicles that might take the turn. most cars can take that curve at much higher speed than 15mph. this frame is exactly 4 seconds before the crash. FSD is disengaged. if anyone is responsible for not slowing down or turning, it's the driver.

Btw what happens is drivers see that autopilot is about to cause a crash and disengage it to try to stop the crash and it’s too late. Then tesla gets to say that autopilot wasn’t engaged

Why did the software ignore it and approached the intersection at much higher speed? It is obvious that Tesla software was a major contributing factor to this crash.

Earlier I missed the fact that there was a speed limit sign at 15 mph. it is quite obvious that the truck was going much faster than 15mph at the moment when FSD was disengaged by the driver. It seems that the NYP writer was “nearly” right when it described what happened in this crash. Had FSD continued straight into the wall at the speed it was travelling, perhaps the truck would have ended up over the wall?

@AndyZeGerman Unfortunately the video starts just after passing the speed limit sign 15mph. It is quite obvious that truck was traveling at much higher speed. Tesla could have released the telemetry data to show whether FSD slowed down at all while traveling on the freeway exit ramp.

I will get a ton of blowback for what I am about to say, but here goes. I have let people use FSD on all of my Teslas since I first got it. Over all the years I have seen the same issue over and over again. When they are unfamiliar, they did not notice when it disengaged. The sound of disengagement is not very loud and can easily be missed, when inexperienced. I am not saying that Tesla was at fault, but it would be nice to have a default setting and clear voice and visual announcement, that FSD has been disengaged. Have said so in my live streams as well. Then there could be an advanced setting where you turn that "off" to basically what it is right now. It can be missed for beginners, as some touch the wheel or tap the brakes, not knowing that they actually disengaged. Again, I said what I said, but if you disagree, I ask you to let some none Tesla drivers drive your car.

@ChadMoran She had 2 seconds before the turn. More than enough time to come to a complete stop, let alone to slow to a safe speed. She then had 2 more seconds before impact. I don’t see anyway this isn’t just 100% driver error.

Here's the original video, which looks like it's actual speed. I used two markers and consistently measured it. It took 75 frames in a 30 FPS video to travel 212.63 ft equating to 57.9 MPH (probably 60). The incident occurred in August of 2025. These are just facts. Yes the driver should have intervened sooner. Yes, FSD was approaching way too fast.

Why did FSD ignore the 15mpg speed limit? What was the projected path it showed to the driver? Did it indicate straight path into the wall or a right turn? As someone suggested, the FSD probably assumed that car was on the freeway below, going straight and not being on the ramp approaching an intersection.

She disengaged 4 seconds prior to impact. So she had 4 seconds where she was actively involved, and a Cybertruck only needs about 1 to stop. It appears she just drove into the wall on her own. In other words, she had control of the car for 2 seconds before the turn, and 2 seconds starting at the turn.

Thank you. The speed limit sign on the ramp was 15 mph. The FSD was driving much faster. It was out of control before the driver tried to slow down. Tesla will lose this case. They should never have used the name FSD when selling this function. They should have used word “assist“ in the name to avoid illusion of selling a fully automated system.
