@zbitter Curious if this is even an USATF rule or international. Like I could see it stating there must be formal withdrawal to employ an alternate. Doesn't excuse Heron at all, just curious

Once you think USATF can’t bungle the sport of running anymore, you learn at a World Championships (in this case the 24 hour), if an athlete on the team, decides to not show up, they need verbal confirmation of withdraw in order to replace the runner with an alternate. This stands even if it is reasonable to assume they aren’t going to participate, and multiple attempts to contact have been made. Camille Herron apparently decided to not go to World 24, and has not verbally withdrawn, meaning the alternate won’t be able to participate and the women’s team will only be able to have five members compete. I suspect this rule will get updated after this year, as I cannot imagine USATF thought someone would weaponize it.

Any American female ultra runners with any interest in the 24-hour may want to play their hand for next year’s 24-hour World Champs Team USA. You have @Rundoctor74 as team director and a couple 155+ talents leading the charge in @runcamille and Marisa Lizak.

@gazzellie @runcamille @zbitter Dawn to Dusk to Dawn (May, PA) and the Dome (still awaiting final approval, June, WI) are widely regarded as the best qualifying opportunities, but any certified 24 hour course is eligible, including international venues.

@KPGreensboro @zbitter @runcamille The Dome in June is still getting final logistics together but I expect it to be the best “last chance” opportunity for those wanting to make the team and is far enough away to allow for a good training build up.
