@gengongingun Considering how quickly he decided to start living with Trinity, I’d bet in favor of the estranged relationship. Because being theres no way he’s just skating by because he “doesn’t want to burden his parents.” Being homeless is FUCKING HARD 😭

I know that the headcanon that Whitaker has an estranged relationship with his family is not founded in much evidence, but I do find it hard to believe that if his family knew he was homeless they wouldn't have done something unless they had kicked him out or he'd left.
