@cas1193 @north0fnorth This would make a great road trip! My first road trip was Chicago to Colorado (Rocky Mountain NP).. it was wild to experience the transformation from Midwest Plains™️ to mountains. Flying doesn't do it justice. The Tetons are my fave of the 20+ national parks I've seen

How many times did Barack Hussein have an assassination attempt? How many times did Joe Biden have an assassination attempt? How many times did Kamala Harris have an assassination attempt? How many times did Hillary Clinton have an assassination attempt? The answer is 0, the Democrats are the party of violence in America.

@unvarnishedvoid Why is there 0 realistic scenario where 0 people press blue? Just stick a label on top of blue that says "CLICK HERE IF YOU'D LIKE TO COMMIT SUICIDE". Nobody who doesn't want to commit suicide should press blue. I don't want even 1 person to hit blue. They'd have to be ignorant.

Imma put my 2 cents in With how this is worded red kills people. There is 0 realistic scenario where 0 people pick blue. So you are executing people. You pick red the blue deaths are more on you. That's why people pick blue I know that more then 50% of people will pick blue
Robb Allen@ItsRobbAllen

New Trolley problem has arrived, only it's dumber. Pres Red - 100% chance of living. Blue - Non-zero chance of dying. It has nothing to do with empathy for others unless you're stuck on suicidal empathy, which is YOUR fault, not mine. There is ZERO logical reason for ANYONE to press blue. NONE.

@FeliciaC247033 @unvarnishedvoid Why would anyone pick blue? There is no reason not to. Your whole assumption hinges on people not having comprehension of what is being asked. This isn't a prisoners dilemma situation. There is no reason to be altruistic.

@AJamesMcCarthy @waitbutwhy The blue button isn't self-preservation, because you'd almost certainly die by pushing it. Is your argument that it's "more dangerous" to die a slow and protracted death from supply chains failing and having to fend for yourself in the resulting wilderness, than to die instantly?

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@bcubeddd I think the typical results of these polls would disprove that assertion. Regardless of your powers of persuasion, statistically speaking, you'll never get everyone to vote red. There's a much higher chance of >50% blue than 100% red. And zero deaths. Obvious choice IMO!

this is a great demonstration of how survey phrasing matters. you could pose this as —press the red button: nothing happens —press the blue button: unless enough people press the blue button, you die

@quantum_geoff Blue buttoners are like kamala Harris supporters, a loud and sanctimonious minority that assume they're 90% of the population and not 15%, and who have never properly grasped the meaning of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."

For those claiming that voting red isn’t a symptom of selfishness, imagine a variant of this where your vote doesn’t determine your own life, but the life of a random person assigned to you...

@bcubeddd Your vote definitely contributes to the outcome though. If you could coordinate the vote, it'd make more sense to tell everyone to vote blue, knowing that at least one person won't. If everyone thought their vote didn't matter, there'd still be an outcome but no accountability

@StrangerInAStr3 well unless you can coordinate the vote (in which case you can just tell everyone to vote red) there is no point in voting blue because your individual contribution won’t determine the outcome

@StrangerInAStr3 @quantum_geoff You cannot account for people wishing to ilogically endanger their lives. Every time you go outside a person may try to swerve into you and end themselves. Does that mean you will never exit your home?

I get really annoyed by people saying that the “rational” or “game theory” answer is to vote red here. This a coordination problem: there are two optimal outcomes: everyone votes red or >50% vote blue. People dying is (I hope) not an optimal outcome even for the red voters
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

@quantum_geoff There is no logical reason to press blue, hence no logical reason there would be deaths. If I told you right now you have to drink a bottle of ketchup so a person in Africa doesn't stab himself with a cactus to death, would you go drink one?
