@Theparadispatch @Hania16836 Such a stupid take. Other restaurants around the world manage to pay their staff a decent wage, tips are a bonus for great service and if you can afford it. Everything in the US has become too expensive, ripped off at every opportunity. And Trump has made it worse.

Those are corporate franchises. 75% of small businesses are ma and pa restaurants. They don’t have the revenue to pay those wages. Also, your using fast food companies and comparing them to in door dining establishments with have a waitstaff. Not a fair comparison. Also, McDonalds does not pay their avg workers over $24 an hour unless it’s in one of the super expensive cities. Please provide a source for that.

@Theparadispatch @Hania16836 It doesnt matter. In N Out pays over $24 an hr. Mcdonalds pay higher. Jack in the box pay higher. Restaurant owners should pay their employees at or above the state’s minimum wage.

@motusalt @Hania16836 I am curious where in Europe are they charging the same? Also, where in the US are you using as a comparison? I do agree that food prices are crazy but also keep in mind the energy and fuel costs involved in storing and moving them.

My logic is based on how other industries work. As I stated before when you buy most items, the sales person gets a commission. You can apply the same framework here as an alternative to tipping. Not my preference but an alternative. The industry has been this way for 50+ years. If you don’t like it, don’t go out to eat or order take out but to not tip a server who provided outstanding service is completely unethical in my opinion! If anyone feels otherwise, open your own establishment, pay your workers double the minimum wage, ban tipping and let me know how it works out!
