If I’m Usyk, I try to get the Deontay Wilder fight in Vegas. That subpar performance yesterday just single handedly sold the Wilder fight.

@SteveBoxman Yes very good point. I suppose the fact I've watched Rico hurt, dropped and cut and always survive (last 10yrs) could be swaying my opinion too.

@boxing_under 💯 and the ref would have also seen Fury get up after being laid out by Wilder so that would have played its part too. Nobody would have complained if the ref had stepped in that night though.

This was not a bad stoppage, he was done after that knockdown. #boxing

@SteveBoxman If we compare it to the trouble Usyk had Fury in - he should be allowed to continue. The ref only steps in on that day as he called a knockdown by Fury falling into the ropes. But this is sport and it's subjective, the two refs will see it differently just like we do 👍

@boxing_under I wouldn’t be mad if the ref lets him make the final round but in truth he looked a mess going to the corner and couldn’t defend himself when Usyk was pounding him straight after.

@AdamsBoxingShow The element of surprise was there too. He had no idea Rico would be moving around like that, and he can be forgiven for believing a man that competes 3x3 or 5x3min rds would be spent after 6rds. Sometimes we gota give credit where it's due, Rico was a hards night work fullstop.

Usyk is 39 years old. We (AdamsBoxingShow) have criticized him just like everyone else did for yesterday’s performance. But let’s not overly do it. No boxer is in their prime at 39 years old. The decline was imminent regardless of who he faced. He deserves the chance to respond after this.

@Tom32156Phil He throws a right hand, albeit not a good one about 1.5 - 2 seconds before stoppage. All the credit to Usyk for landing with such spped and accuracy, but as you say the ref is too eager. Round is done, let Rico come out for 12th and Usyk likely takes him out & no controversy.

Something about boxing refs doesn't sit well with me, and hasn't for a long time now. Mark Lyson tonight being a prime example, it's almost like they feel it's their job to stop a knock out. Rico ate shots at the end, but was still moving, and still throwing. Stay out of it!!!

Rico deserved the opportunity to go back to his corner and come out for the 12th. That is a dreadful stoppage, and no one can convince me otherwise. After Fury - Ngannou, this does nothing positive for the boxing purists. Let Usyk take him out without controversy in the 12th FFS

What a fantastic fight this has been between Mcgregor and Gomez Jr. Mcgregor showing heart but not sure how wise it is standing and trading with the bigger man.

@Taz1342241Taz @SteveBoxman When I hear people talk about British fighters getting robbed abroad, I always cringe and think of some of our officials, and Howard Fosters face normally pops straight into my head. Awful official who should not be allowed to continue making money out of boxing

@SteveBoxman He stopped Wardley Parker too early, then waits until the penultimate round to save Wardley from further damage 🤦. Froch probably would've stopped him in Manchester, but I'm no more than 70% confident of that.

A great British scrap that had an immediate rematch 🔥 Howard Foster was in different form on this night 🤦‍♂️ The rematch settled it all but there was no doubt that this one was halted too soon! #boxing

That was a fight with 2 p4p top 5 fighters meeting which doesn't happen often. And had Eubank fought Collins in Eng, chances are he'd still be undefeated facing Calzaghe IMO

Yes people say Hopkins was shot but at that point he was actually in the best form of his career. Vast majority of fighters way past their best at 35. Hopkins who lived a very healthy lifestyle and relied on timing rather than speed posted many of his best wins (Wright, Pavlik, Tarver, Pascal, Cloud & Shumenov) after the age of 40.
