@SubsonicSparkIe The biggest issues with the Dreamcast is that the games it had were too niche to appeal to a mass audience, and that each console was sold at around a $100 loss.

@spinelessaisha Getting a used phone would probably be a better option if you can swing it. The performance and compatibility is often much better, especially with the pi's non-standard GPU. A phone already has 90% of what you need, except for the controller part.

would it be possible to make your own handheld using a raspberry pi if you dont' have 3d printing as an option? or would it be better to just get a cheap phone and find a backbone controller? i really wnat a handheld gaming device so bad... but damn it's expensive

@nonlinear_james @atalocke I'm assuming the audio issue is specifically a Gnome thing? Hardly ever have a problem with it on KDE+PipeWire. Also, I use Thunderbird as my email client. It's not perfect, but gets the job done better than most alternatives.

Indeed. Also: Having shitty email clients ensures people bail. And the audio constantly resetting to different devices every time you restart instead of remembering your preferences for mic and sound properly (this is a 15 year old bug btw) And fractional dpis still being flaky as hell. And no onedrive/google/drop etc. clients which most people need for at least work.

Using GNOME as a default desktop environment for your distro is just asking to filter new users. It is an objective downgrade in usability for people coming from Windows or Mac. KDE is the most feature-complete desktop environment. 99% of users will have everything they need to feel comfortable.

@SkeirBoreal @atalocke I have genuinely never had this problem before. Are you doing something weird with your taskbar?

@atalocke my only complaint with KDE is that i can't figure out how to get maximized (not fullscreen) windows to consistently respect the taskbar panel so they don't go under it. windows always handled this just fine

@Jerry__Grey @atalocke I don't get what you mean by "no direction". KDE is much more well-integrated than many desktop environments (E.g. XFCE or LXQt). What I like about KDE is that it is a DE that can adapt to how you work. Gnome, on the other hand, forces you to adapt to it.

@atalocke Windows user here. I find GNOME to be a refreshing light experience versus KDE. KDE feels like it has no direction and is trying to be everything for everyone. GNOME feels clean. The learning curve for GNOME isn't that bad.

@coderman64 @simonsarris most of not tech savvy user use google chrome, and google by default download format in webp. Also most user download image to be put on microsoft office based file format. imagine the backlash if users keep asking why pictures they save from google chrome is not supported.

@jab50yen I'd agree, except that it's the same company (and indeed the same people) who were behind the original.

@evanplaice @atalocke You don't have to install the metapackage with a bajillion extra programs. KDE's actually surprisingly light if you just use the basics.

@NearestCommit Yet I go into CVS and see type C cables for $15 and lightning for $20. And the type C does a heck of a lot more than lightning.

@GamewithDave ...debatable. I have had some issues with certain DVDs IA's formats in the past. Also they haven't had any major updates in a while, as they've been working on VLC 4 iirc, which WILL probably break things when it comes out.

There’s one app that just works… no drama, no updates breaking things. VLC.

@girlmadeofbread Isn't this a DRM thing? StarForce and SecuROM were always awful pieces of software, and compatibility has specifically been broken for security, which I think is a legit reason. This doesn't make Windows backwards compatibility any less impressive, IMO.

@HeartlightQueen If you think about it, Forces actually needed to have the same amount of automation, but with more actual gameplay in-between.

Anyone saying automation isn’t necessary literally don’t understand game design and how much is automated in literally any game they’ve ever played, especially sonic games Forces just uses automation too much, that’s the difference
Metal Sonic Confessions 🤖@SonicConfesses

"Automation is a necessary feature and all Sonic games should have it. Sonic game would be extremely clunky to play without automation and that's just not fun."

@katiserie It doesn't just look worse, it doesn't function as a logo. I have no idea what the software does just from the logo, whereas the previous one gave a pretty good idea. Now it just looks like a generic useless software product in a sea of generic useless software products.

@KaidoGenkai Replacement lasers aren't always great. I hear a number of them tend to be DOA, but often people forget to remove the static discharge solder blob on them, so who knows.

My third PS2 just died on me. Old consoles really don't hold up against time, sigh. Are replacement disc drives on E-bay the same quality as OEM? Assuming not even close, but curious if anyone has any experience with 'em.
