Sums up modern Fianna Fáil that its current leader cites Winston Churchill as someone he considers a “great war time leader”. Dear god.

Now that the wheels have fallen off the woke regime in tech, we'd be smart to offer amnesty to those who got caught up in it. Be the counter force to the purity purges that plague that side. Accept earnest apologies, embrace the fallen, and forgive those who trespass against us.

@dejanvasic85 I think the more likely scenario is what happens to bitcoin if inflation rises. Historically it declines.

If there are 3 trillion dollars stored in Bitcoin what happens to inflation once that money makes its way back into the real market? Would it make a difference?

@destraynor @Padday Very interesting listening 👍 I don’t fully agree — current AI is hugely useful, but feels like it’s hitting a ceiling. Time will tell.

Started a new podcast with @Padday — I promise I’ll never be this hairy on camera again (I didn’t expect it to air 😅) We covered: 1 Don’t build a MiniDisc 2. AI= both new market + low-end disruption 3 Roles are collapsing 4 UIs are rebundling 5 Cynics will be left behind Enjoy

In discussions with young pple I am usually protective & diplomatic (that also applies to nice older people). Peterson is both an asshole & an idiot. He doesn't even know that, in the foundation of epistemology, "true" and "belief" are not equivalent (JST=justified true belief).

One reason Jordan Peterson is so poor at reasoning is he's surrounded by sycophants who don't give him feedback on his extremely flawed arguments. Here's what happens when he tests his ideas against someone who isn't in his close circle of salad brained pseudointellectuals

@destraynor Is this guy claiming what LLMs are doing when they predict the next word is actually “understanding” everything about the question There is ZERO understanding.

This is such a simple and powerful little clip that cuts the core of what AI is (or isn't) doing. Sadly most of the people who would benefit most from it made up their mind a long time ago, and they ain't changing it.
Derya Unutmaz, MD@DeryaTR_

This is the most clear & important explanation about how LLMs work. Remarkably, there are still people who claim that AI can’t produce anything original because “it just predicts the next word.” Listen to Ilya to understand what “understand” really means.

Have been thinking about this a lot recently and my views have evolved quite a bit. IMO - humans ARE just incredible biological prediction machines running on evolutionary system prompts we can't access or modify. Survive, reproduce, seek resources, avoid threats - these are our hardcoded instructions. What we call 'free thought' is just pattern matching against millions of biological and environmental inputs happening below conscious awareness. The dismissal of AI as 'just predicting tokens' reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of how all intelligence works. There is increasingly no meaningful distinction between biological and digital cognition - only different substrates running the same underlying process.

Arguably the worst the EU can do is go suck China’s dick and embrace further descend in the future towards totalitarian social credit system, which is already being paved the way for through CBDC integration with digital and medical passports

@NicerInPerson @afneil The (pretty clear) point is countries are allowed to set standards. As long as they apply to all suppliers no matter their location they aren't protectionist. Any US farmer is capable of meeting AUS standards and selling to them without barriers. They choose not to.

This is typical of the nonsense being spouted by pro-tariff politicians in US. Australia exports about £3bn beef per year to US at zero tariffs up to a quota laid down in US/Aus free trade agreement. US exports no beef to Aus because it does not meet Aus hormone and biosecurity restrictions. Nothing to do with tariffs. Same reason Europe/UK won’t import US beef. Even if US meat met Aus standards very little would be exported. Aus is self-sufficient in meat, US a big importer i.e not self-suffient. Again, nothing to do with tariffs.
Unofficial Trump on X@trump_repost

"I appreciate what the President is doing on tariffs...Australia has sold $29 billion worth of beef in the United States, and we haven't been able to sell one hamburger in Australia because of barriers...you look at these numbers, and the ranchers of Wyoming are saying thank you Mr. President, it is about time!"
