The Facebook and Instagram copyright reporting system is being misused through false copyright complaints. Individuals are reportedly using temporary email services, virtual numbers, and other methods to submit fraudulent copyright reports, resulting in copyright strikes against creators' content and accounts.
In many cases, creators are allegedly being asked to pay money after such strikes are issued, with threats of further strikes or account removal if payment is not made. This represents a serious concern involving digital extortion, abuse of reporting systems, and harm to legitimate creators.
We respectfully request that Meta:
• Strengthen verification within the copyright reporting process.
• Take strict action against fraudulent copyright complaints and abuse of the system.
• Resolve counter-notices and appeals within 24–48 hours whenever possible.
• Provide effective and timely support to Meta Verified (Blue Tick) and paid support users.
• Improve complaint resolution mechanisms for creators affected by false reports.
We are also sharing screenshots and relevant report numbers related to these cases and request that they be reviewed and investigated on priority.
Our objective is not to target anyone, but to help ensure a safe, fair, and transparent platform where genuine creators are protected from false copyright strikes and reporting abuse.
