Last week an essay of mine was published in @AnnalsofIM ! This is one my shortest and (bitter)sweetest pieces of work. Read it here: doi.org/10.7326/ANNALS…

So happy my poster was accepted for the SAMBrighton Conference 2024 - looking at a newly launched AKI Clinic at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. #acutemedicine #SAMbrighton #PA

@Medic_Russell A patient pooped his pants on purpose in protest at the care he was receiving in A&E- an adult patient I should specify

The vibes are off today. There’s something in the air. I’m yet to find anyone who’s had a nice day?

@jtrebach I treated someone with this not long ago! Just after taking usmle and thinking “sheesh what is the point of knowing this….” Patient clearly did read the textbook on this occasion 😨

@drphiliplee1 Archie’s cafe is cute and Fabrizio’s pizza right next to it is excellent- not sure if open for lunch. There is also a falafel stand outside main entrance some days. Norman’s cafe worth the slightly longer walk 👌👌

Sounding out lunch options near work. Is the Archway Kebab Centre an acceptable workday lunch choice?

In trying to explain pronouns to my lab PI, I offered, “if lymphocytes are he/him and neutrophils are she/her, dendritic cells are they/them”

@tattooed_bug I may be cynical but the language/tone of the reply from reference email sounds suspiciously like that from applicant email…and suggestion that an interview is *still* best outcome is fishy! I would check the listed email address is legit

@AngusDeWilton1 I think generally smaller = sweeter, at least that’s what my mum always told me, and she’s always right!

For me and my other peers in the “Class of Corona,”—many of whom had no time off between being in med school one day and suddenly being interim FY1s put to work on the wards the next— I hope this next year brings joy, and rest, and calm.

I spent four months in the “zone of proximal development” (shoutout to #Vygotsky) and felt stupid for ALL of them…but also had time to attend several conferences, courses, teach med students, and even go back to @SwanseaMedicine for my belated graduation

My #foundationtraining ended with a whisper more than a bang- staying late to finish an ELISA in the lab- but I am grateful for an academic post that took me off the “service provision” hamster wheel and gave me time to *actually* learn and reflect (not Horus reflect)

@AngusDeWilton1 The flowers are the same though.. It’s a variation I think, we had some round zucchini a few summers ago. You might be in marrow territory now with those striations but it’s a squash either way for sure

My strongest memory of COVID: I was sat in a respirator. They are horrible to wear. It made my nose stream and I'd gone deaf in one ear from pressure on my temperomandibular joint from the mask straps. I was tired. So, utterly, dog tired. I'd just reviewed a man, in his 50s

@ConnorDibblin Homerton is small & cushy but FY1s do nights, North Mid is medicine bootcamp- you will see lots of v sick patients and really grow as a doctor and yes there are curly fries! UCH is very well-resourced but hyper-specialised so not much autonomy and ?possibly won’t learn as much

North London Deanery, with its 23 hospitals and 608 jobs to rank, is stressing me out already! Does anyone have any advice on UCL, Homerton, North Mid, The Whitt or Bart's?

@SevdaHassan Sevda would chat w/ me as we passed in the corridor & I still remember the sound of her laugh: so throaty, full, & joyful. It made everything seem bearable. She was someone I respected & admired & she represented the kind of brilliant, kind, & badass doctor I aspire to be 🤍 RIP
