I’m not sure who needs to read this, but let this be a sign. for most of my life, I’ve lived in a “traditional” sense—aligned with the expectations of those around me. growing up in an asian household, education was treated as the number one priority. I was taught that good grades were the determining factor of success, so I always tried my best in school. but after graduating high school earlier this june, I made an abrupt decision. I decided not to move forward with college. I did this for my mental health, and because I wanted to dive deeper into my profession full-time. I’m not saying you should make the same decision I did—everyone’s situation is different, and education is important. what I am saying is that I realized this is my life. I get to make my own decisions. you have to find your own way, because your way is often the best way forward. ultimately, you live your own life. nobody else should be trying to live it for you. - ✌️

hot take: unpaid internships can actually be useful if you have zero experience, no portfolio, and no one willing to vouch for you, that opportunity can be the spark that builds your resume, network, and confidence it's not ideal for long term — but sometimes a valuable first step
