@kuviran2 @UpdatesChennai Finally, to return to the agri point. TN has 12 million ac under cultivation, 2000 ac is nothing and making it an airport will not impact food supply at all. Again, agri is important but it depends on large subsidies which only the revenue from economic growth can provide.

@kuviran2 @UpdatesChennai Unless TN builds a new airport now, we will continue to lose out heavily in the race for service sectors jobs. Look at how many GCCs BLR and HYD have. MAA also does not have space to support large ancillary industries. BLR has built up a big MRO base around the airport, for ex.

What is the issue with Chennai Airport? Is the new airport for the people or just for corporates? You don’t even talk about farming, and farming is not overhyped. If we stop cultivation, will we end up importing food from other countries? Farming is the future, and food security matters more than corporate interests.

This page is demolishing all myths about Parandur project and why we need it. Now explains why Chennai can't build an airport on sea. Well done @asvom_hub 🙏👏

@parim @cmrlofficial It was certainly true in that year because there's what the ticketing data we analysed said. Fort did see peak time volumes because of staff going to the secretariat for example. But across the whole day Beach and Velachery were the busiest stations.

@dyneshv @cmrlofficial >given Beach was the origin or destination of 60% of traffic in 2017. as some one who has used MRTS for over 15 years now, I don't think this is true. The trains always used to empty out completely at fort. I used to get a little scared to stay on the train as a young boy.

Worked on the original study 9 years ago so I'll be personally thrilled to see this happen. The MRTS is long overdue for an upgrade. But @cmrlofficial has to insist on a double line to Beach rather than Fort, given Beach was the origin or destination of 60% of traffic in 2017.
Chennai Updates@UpdatesChennai

Good news...🥳🙌 Railway Board likely to give approval for CMRL takeover of MRTS in four to six weeks. Estimated cost of project is ₹4,500 Crs... #Chennai #MRTS Ⓜ️🚊 thehindu.com/news/cities/ch…

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 I was referring to mid and high value service sector jobs for which avg salaries in HYD are higher than MAA. HYD hosts more GCCs too. Overall GDP is a different story; Chennai is bigger than Hyderabad because we have a huge manufacturing sector.

Economic illiteracy on display 🤦🏽‍♂️. Chennai is struggling to compete with BLR and HYD on high value finance and service sector jobs. Do these people think those jobs would go to Madurai if we built a new airport there? Without a Chennai gateway, investment will go to other states.
Aspiring Madurai@MaduraiGrowth

People of other cities in Tamilnadu are happy that Parandur isn’t happening. @CMOTamilnadu please focus on Madurai, Kovai , Trichy , Tuti and Salem airport connectivity, investments will pour in all parts of TN .

This is exactly my problem with Chennai. Spend everything but what's the outcome? Every money spent is looted in every way possible.

@reclaimchennai Chennai stealing water from Cauvery Veeranam due to non availability of lakes to cater chennai needs. Funny part is Chennai spends crores of ruppes to renovate a simple pond. Folks get ready for seawater intrusion.

@dyneshv @PaariTamizhan It's high time people realize the the tertiary sector cant be distributed like we did in the manufacturing sector, small companies maybe okay with it, but big corps would definitely want an ecosystem

@lonestar1007 @AvisharDutta In the scenario I mean, Chennai Port in Georgetown would close to be the new CBD. That's a few hundred acres for a new business precinct. Kattupalli and KPL would be the ports for the city going forward. They already share road access and the NPAR will also link to both.

One option would been to build a CBD/Port City on Port Authority lands. Standard template for most global cities, old docks get moved out and dockyards get redeveloped. I know - Chennai port is still a very active port + port expansion in the north is diff, but just saying.

Why wouldn't the TN Govt consider repairing or reconstructing this old, broken bridge between Besant Nagar and Link Road near Marina? It would save a lot of time and ease traffic problems. #Madras

@lonestar1007 @PaariTamizhan Yeah I wouldn't want to be judgmental. If anything TN is better than other states in this regard. We have distributed manufacturing well. But high wage services jobs are going to be in Chennai only. That's why we need the airport.

@lonestar1007 @AvisharDutta Why? KPL is the best run major port in India in my experience, certainly the most efficient by some metrics (I'm a little biased as they're a former client). They were run as a corporate entity from the start (hence being a reg co instead of a trust). CPRR will connect both btw.

@AvisharDutta @dyneshv I think chennai should do way with the kamaraj port. Or atleast make it smaller while expanding kattupalli and building a new own in the south of chennai. The CPRR should connect both.

@lonestar1007 @PaariTamizhan It's amazing how TN is such an urban state but so many people retain parochial rural attitudes about their capital. TN is a lovely state with great culture and a broadly distributed economy, but to pretend Chennai isn't the spearhead of that is lunacy.

@PaariTamizhan Chennai has 10million people and contributed 30% to state's gdp with <0.5% of tn's land mass. Chennaites look down on rural people bcoz of villagers being conservative and their bonding to caste. Plus rural people idealize farming while it contributes less than 20% of the gdp.

@symsunIT @UpdatesChennai @Keerthana4VNR TN already did a great job decentralising manufacturing thru incentives. But services don't work like that. High wage finance jobs won't go to a tier 2 town. Either they will go to your metro or to another state. And without such jobs you can't grow much beyond our current level.

@dyneshv @UpdatesChennai @Keerthana4VNR Chennai faces severe issues with water resources, traffic, housing, waste management, & still many demand for 2nd-airport is lunacy. If we dont decentralize, then similar to Delhi, one day Chennai would become just a tourist spot & everyone would migrate to New Chennai.

@Keerthana4VNR ma'am. You went to S.Korea recently. Even for that you had take a connecting flight as Chennai doesn't have one. Korean airports are so good. How do you expect to convince investors to come invest in TN when your capital city has a third class Airport? Speak up!!
Chennai Updates@UpdatesChennai

🚨Parandur likely to be dropped while a Sipcot will come up there. A GO is expected shortly as per Hindu. Chennai will continue to suffer. Good luck finding a site which has no farms & water bodies. You have already pushed TN/Chennai back @CMOTamilnadu 👎 hindutamil.in/news/tamilnadu…

@streetfrontier Anna Library is great but I have to say, even local libraries in Sydney are amazing. Another great ex here is Sydney Park, where a 100 acre landfill was converted to an urban wetland with amazing walking tracks and a skate park. Would love to see more third spaces in Chennai.

@lonestar1007 @AvisharDutta In an ideal world we would never have built it. Unlike Parandur this project had better alternatives, even if we never moved the port out of its current location. We could have built an elevated road above the Ennore expressway, also solving a bottleneck in North Chennai.

@dyneshv @AvisharDutta What will the fate of the port maduravoyal express way then? I think the gymkhana club and the island grounds would make a great cbd along with the wharf Secretariat will have to shifted for obvious reasons
