@fawnpnguyen After reviewing a couple of the comments, I understood. I never learned this, but what a great way to check. It also helps with adding single digits...students struggle with this. Now to understand Cabal Set Theory. More learning.

Growing up I learned how to check if a multiplication problem was computed correctly by using the large X method. Have you seen this? Is there a name? (Why does this work?)

@Frazier2008 @howie_hua I'm wondering if those strategies also apply to dividing polynomials which we see at first/second year university maths where I teach 🤔 My undergrads who knew long division pick up on polynomial division pretty quickly.

Which math topic is only taught because the standards say to teach it but in reality we'd all be fine if it disappears?

Our math classes should start with something that is active— actively engaging, thought-provoking and discussion worthy.

@grightmd Agree. But accepting the need for change also seems to be a big sticking point.

This means that the education of the 1900s should no longer exist as well -- imagine if medicine kept doing things 'the way that we've always done it', or 'when I was in school....'.
Alice Keeler@alicekeeler

The 1900's no longer exist. What things are we still holding onto that really are no longer relevant or only marginally so? I ditched my printer ages ago... sure, in a rare occasion I need one. However, it is so rare as to necessitate buying one.

@MarcusLuther6 @GBGEdu I tell my students a mark does not define you. Just the other day, I overheard one of my students repeat this to a friend. This student who was repeating me, always came to class with a positive attitude. I know she will be successful.

Students are amazing! Someone returned a marker that accidentally left with them. #grateful

@MrVmaths I have done something similar to @MathWaite. Similar reflections on assessments. I provide feedback and then have students assess themselves. We have a chat while the students do a diagnostic for the next learning objective. When it comes to midterms we discuss and agree on mark

Going #gradeless in my gr 9 class this yr. As we approach reporting time, would love to connect with others who have used conferences to determine report card grades, esp in HS #ungrading
