@repoyedc Totally agree. Baltimore is using evidence-based practices, fully funding programs and it’s working. Knee-jerk fear-based responses have a terrible track record. But I guess it scores points with voters. Or at least Pinto thinks so…

Young people in DC need support, not incarceration. For the past 12 years, I’ve supported thousands of kids with science experiments to get them interested in become pharmacists like me. Right now, kids are acting out and fighting at public spaces like the navy yard. Rather than finding ways to engage youth, The DC Council is looking to extend a juvenile curfew. I oppose extending the curfew because it’s not evidence based, it’s antagonizing and a waste in resources. Kids need programs, not over policing.

@ZacharyforWard5 It’s crazy. Pepco won’t even respond to me. My experience was they used to be a reasonable company but now they’re as bad as DC Water. Squeezing every last drop from customers, slapping them with high bills, and unwilling to work out basic pay-back arrangements.

Whereas rats were all the talk last month as I knocked on doors, the vast majority of neighbors are now complaining about utilities. One senior said she wears sweaters and keeps her power off at home trying to control her bill. The reckoning is coming.

@maustermuhle @charlesallen I remember from a couple years ago when I applied one of the DC programs you have to be so far behind that essentially your utilities would have to be cut off. So I would have had to be living in a house with no water for probably about 3 weeks to qualify.

Interesting: In a D.C. Council hearing, @charlesallen says that only 20% of eligible D.C. residents are enrolled in utility discount programs. "These are systems that are set up to make lower-income working families prove their poverty over and over again," he says.
