@prranch

I follow my wife and child around closing doors and turning out lights. Other than that, I'm barely productive.

I started at $7.25 an hour in 1996 at Walmart HQ with a bachelors degree. I understand. In 2001 I started at AA in PR for $50k. Thought it was all the money in the world. Now, here in rural Texas, you can’t fill a job for less than $15 an hour. Like, that’s starting pay at Dairy Queen with no experience.

@prranch @Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher For sure. Federal minimum wage was raised TO $7.25 in 2009. Making $12/hour was a *great* rate in a lot of jobs. $15+ was management (I was job hunting at that time with a fresh Bachelor Degree so it is burned into my mind). 12x40x52 = $24,960 before any taxes or deductions.

Sorry, my wife informed me when I got home that it was United pre-ACA. It was PPO and $20/30 co-pay and out of network coverage. $4,000 family deductible. BCBS and Amica had similar plans for maybe $15-20 more per month. I think this is just an issue of TX vs PA being vastly different economies then and now.

@prranch @JuneH79 @InezFeltscher Again, that just doesn’t add up that BCBS top tier family plan was 200/month in 2009. They didn’t even have a “platinum” until 2014

@jamesmoon80 @Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher I can assure you $90k in Plano, TX, was at best middle class in 2010. But I also understand that it was above national median. But two people making $40k was the blue collar norm back then for a household in Texas. Mileage varied in other states for sure.

@prranch @Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher $90,000 household income pre 2010s? Hate to say it bud. You were basically rich. Retail workers, gas station, restaurant, etc. A lot of them were making $27,500 to $40,000 HOUSEHOLD. Don't try and think your experience was "typical".

@Pigb00py @Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher Brother, I get nothing out of "likes." You're denigrating my lived experience, man. 😂 Ironically, on my medical sharing plan, I have 2 pre-existing conditions it won't pay for until after 3 years. It's a concern ... but saving ~$4,800 a year in premiums is worth it.

Guessing your income was pretty low (no offense, it's just that your rate got subsidized by higher income families). State you live in matters. It was just you and not 2 people. And, our timeframe was ~2010-2017. And prior to ACA, I think our deductible was like $4,000 for the family. It was $14,000 at the end.

@prranch @Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher i don't believe that, i was on the same bcbs plan and it was 200 a month for 2 years. this was in 2022-2024. rate never went up. deductible was bad but i never saw an option for 800 lol

@prockityrock @prranch @InezFeltscher It’s crazy that it used to just be the norm that if people had any sort of lapse in coverage over the course of any serious chronic illness we as a society decided they should be declared uninsurable for life

@Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher That's fine, I get no benefit or harm from you believing or disbelieving me. Ironically, my wife and kid are on her employer plan, now, and I am on a medical sharing plan because the cheapest ACA plan for me is $750 a month, now.

@prranch @InezFeltscher Again, I simply do not believe premium coverage for your wife and child was 200/month direct through BCBS in 2009 when I was quoted 5-6x that amount the same year for coverage for myself only

@Mike_FIRE @InezFeltscher We live in Texas - we had a choice between BCBS and United and they were within dollars of each other. We had to switch back and forth under ACA each year to basically pick the "cheapest" plan.

@prranch @InezFeltscher Yeah to put it simply dude i 100 percent don’t believe you. 200/month full coverage for two people direct from BCBS of all companies? Bullshit. BCBS was more expensive than COBRA for just myself, a healthy 23 YO in 2009

It was not. I had work coverage by my wife and son did not. We bought them a Platinum BCBS plan for $200 a month. Immediately on ACA we had to go shit tier coverage and it was $400 per month. Five years later it was $800 a month and they had abysmal coverage. I never made more than $90,000 a year at that time - and that was total household income.

@InezFeltscher The point is people who say “oh, insurance was affordable until Obama” don’t live in reality. Actual non-employer coverage was completely out of reach for the average American. The vast majority of people without employer coverage simply went without

@prranch I need to try it. I haven't Burger King in years, but after these new burger wars kicked back off, I went and had a bacon whopper. I was one of the best burgers I've ever had. No joke. Absolutely fantastic, and the fries were better than McD's, too!

@TxRecon1 I have one question - why are they doing this to Cesar Chavez when they have similar (documented and corroborated!) information on MLK and they excuse his sins away?

Woah. Cesar Chavez was a commie, but he also hated illegal immigrants, so it's pretty interesting to see all the bastions of progressivism destroy Chavez in order to side with the pro-illegals, open borders crowd.

An annual Mass in the nation’s largest Catholic diocese honoring the late farm workers’ leader Cesar Chavez will not take place this year after a bombshell report alleged that the activist sexually abused multiple girls. catholicnewsagency.com/news/270619/ce…

@prranch Let’s say it’s 190 but I hit 9i (stock 158). They’re talking about 190 to the pin. But it might be 10-15 yds of help and I’m trying to land it 15 short of the pin because greens are firm and I can’t go long. So that’s 30 yds short of the pin. It’s more circumstance than anything

Thoughts from Players: -I had a decent Thursday but really struggled Friday. I think I overreacted to some swings I made on Thursday and made a couple changes Friday morning that ended up hurting me. Adjustments are tricky as the change I made to my driver swing was definitely for the better but the adjustment for the irons were for the worse. -Cam Young is easily one of the most impressive golfers I’ve played with. I almost feel bad for the golf ball as it just gets pummeled on every golf shot. How about that freaking tee shot on 18! 😳 I think his caddie Kyle has helped him a lot with his green reading too. The guy is a supreme talent and is just getting started. -I’ve always struggled at Sawgrass and idk when but I will come back and figure this place out. You can make a double so quickly here and I need to stay a bit more disciplined when I get in trouble. There’s plenty of birdie opportunities if you’re in the fairway, there’s just so much trouble when you’re in the thick rough. Theres almost no where to easily run it up near the green. -Onto Valspar where I’ve fared better. I know a good stretch is coming sooner or later.
