That article is probably my single most impactful one - and predates @Pragmatic_Eng Did a few follow-ups over the years, and expanded the concept globally, with numbers: newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/trimodal As with everything in life, do your research, make a plan, then work hard and you can make it

I’ve met so many software engineers in Europe who assumed the same (“no way anyone in EU can make more than €100K/yr) Then read my article on the Trimodal nature of dev salaries, realized which companies to apply to, and broke in there. This article: blog.pragmaticengineer.com/software-engin…
Arvid Kahl@arvidkahl

The worst part is that this kind of salary is effectively unreachable for 99% of European software engineers. If they're lucky, they get to negotiate up to €80k at the end of their career. Unlikely. They're extremely competent. Capable. Impactful. But they end up making €40k.

@LakeAustinBlvd @Cloudflare @efalcao Building on @Cloudflare Workflows at Midbound.cloud (via CF for Startups). Workers, KV, DOs are central to everything we're doing. (~600req/s) Any chance a founder who lives and breathes this stuff could snag a desk in the Lisbon office? Happy to trade war stories 👀

We just got rejected from @ycombinator Here's what we built without them: → ~$600K ARR (see link in the replies) → Profitable since month 6 → 210+ paying customers → 887 GitHub stars → 200+ AI models, 25+ providers, one API → 2 co-founders, both part-time YC would've been great. But we're not waiting for permission to keep building. Onward 🫡

@Ekaeoq What are you smoking? Which country you live in? You can, in eu all countries open a sole proprietorship for free, most don't charge for it until you reach a certain income. No accountant, no tax need be paid.

App idea: Chrome plugin that hides AI replies. It analyzes each reply, scores them from 1 to 10, and allows me to set a confidence threshold to determine whether a reply is from AI or not. I'd pay $19/month so I don't have to guess which humans are pretending to be a human.

@ellie_huxtable The auth services sell you on "security is hard" but then you're debugging their systems, working around their limitations, and paying per-user anyway. If you can write a CRUD app, you can handle sessions and password hashing.

@ellie_huxtable JS has the lowest barrier to entry. I honestly think it's a noob problem. I've managed auth for 500+ mauapps twice now with complex billing and team management... rolling our own was actually less painful than dealing with third-party providers.
