What inspired me most about The Cholesterol Code was not the idea that it somehow answered every question about cholesterol, LDL, plaque, inflammation, or cardiovascular risk. It didn’t. But it did something more important. It showed what can happen when people refuse to stay passive about their own health and instead keep asking better questions, looking deeper, and pushing for more context than the standard script usually provides. I greatly appreciate the scientific work being done in this area, and I think we need much more of it. Mainstream medicine does not have all of this figured out. That seems obvious to me. And the idea that the answer is too often to reach for medication first, without enough curiosity about the individual sitting in front of you, has never sat well with me. What Dave Feldman has done is incredibly inspiring. Here is one person, working as a citizen scientist, devoting years of his life to helping move an important conversation forward on behalf of real people. The film captures that beautifully. It also brings together thoughtful people who do not all come at these questions from exactly the same angle, and I think that makes it stronger. There is seriousness in that, and there is humility in it too. One of the most moving parts of the film for me was the way Dave and Director Jennifer Isenhart wove in Dr. Richard Bernstein. Bernstein was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 12, trained first as an engineer, and later went to medical school at age 45 after struggling to get the medical establishment to take his ideas seriously. He ultimately became a physician and spent decades helping people pursue normal blood sugar, while living far beyond the grim life expectancy he had once been given. He died on April 15, 2025, at age 90. That is what made the storyline with little Johnny so powerful. You see a young boy with type 1 diabetes and his family using much of Dr. Bernstein’s teaching to manage his blood sugar tightly, and then you see them visit Dr. Bernstein at his home in Mamaroneck not long before Bernstein’s death. That part of the film really brought everything together for me. You have Bernstein, whose life stands as proof of what is possible when someone challenges dogma and takes ownership of his condition, and then you have this young boy with the chance to live a long, healthy, productive life in part because those teachings did not die with him. That is incredibly moving. The film also does a beautiful job of grounding these questions in real human stories. People like Eric Rogers, Michelle Hurn, Robyn Dobbins, and others remind us that this is not just about biomarkers or debates on social media. It is about real people trying to understand their bodies, improve their health, and take a more active role in the course of their own lives. I also appreciated seeing Doug Reynolds and Pam Devine in the film. Through LowCarbUSA, they have spent well over a decade helping support this kind of grassroots effort by creating a place where individuals, practitioners, and researchers can keep learning from each other and keep these conversations moving forward. That is probably what stayed with me most. The Cholesterol Code is not just a film about cholesterol. It is a film about curiosity, courage, and personal agency. It is about people deciding they are not going to sit on the sidelines while others make all the decisions about the quality and length of their lives. And for anyone who has benefited from this community, that is a powerful thing to watch.

@sciencegirl Taking a small iodine supplement. Low iodine caused my paralyzing anxiety attacks. Functional Dr tested me for iodine, and it was very, very low. 225mcg of iodine 3 times a week=panic attacks completely gone for 8 years. Also riding my trike with my dog.

I have been with you from the early days, and loved all of your personal experiments, especially the bloodwork timing. I always schedule bloodwork at 10:45 am and my triglycerides are so much better than when I used to go in at 8 am. Thank you! You did a fabulous job with The Cholesterol Code. Literally perfect. My LDL skyrockets on Keto, but I don't worry about it. I had a 6 calc score, then a few years later a 0 calc score. My insulin is 7 and insulin resistance score is 17. A1C is 5.5. I am healthy, and a lot of it is due to following your work through the years. You and Dr Jason Fung are my heroes.

I am so sorry for your husband's pain. I am 71 and recently did 30 days strict strict carnivore to see if that would get rid of my H. pylori infection that drugs for two years have not gotten rid of. It worked and as a side effect some of my chronic pain from other things went away too, maybe something easy to try to see if it would help.

I’m 71 and my husband is 68. Almost all people in my husband’s family have very high cholesterol levels. In the late 80’s or early 90’s, our then GP put my husband on high dose statins. Not the GP’s fault. We never questioned. Fast forward to 2010, he suffered with hard to dx Idiopathic Small Fiber Peripheral Neuropathy = 24/7 horrible chronic pain. Small skin punch biopsy. He’s extremely healthy otherwise as he’s had every test under the sun. No diabetes. Perfect BP readings. Etc. Idiopathic = of unknown cause. SFPN is not caused by diabetes in his case. Since 2010 & many many many doctors two or three specialty doctors hypothesized that it’s possible that the Long-Term High-Dose STATINS might have caused the SFPN by destroying the myelin sheaths that cover & protect the nerves causing the nerves to be raw & exposed creating never ending untreatable horrific Chronic Pain. I have no medical training and I might not remember the long ago explanation correctly - but the docs sort of blamed STATINS as a cause for his SFPN but not proven. Since then, we stopped trying to find help for pain relief as he’s tried everything. We manage our diets and use stress reducing techniques. His meds for chronic pain is generic Cymbalta. Some days are good & somedays are bad. Our plans for travel after retirement were scrapped. Despite that, we manage well and have a worthwhile life. Now they’re saying STATINS “might” cause dementia! I give Thanks to God that my husband stopped STATINS around 2010 and despite my drug dealer trying to push STATINS on me (GP doc) and I refuse STATINS because of the possibility of statin-induced-chronic-pain we totally avoid STATINS & question all medications. We have two neighbors - over 75 - who took STATINS - and they both have horrible DEMENTIA. Not saying their dementia is caused by STATINS - I’m so thankful that my husband stopped STATINS & I avoid them regardless of my GP’s recommendation. My GP & I agreed to put that I’m allergic to statins in my required records. I have true stories of my two neighbors with dementia that are heartbreaking.

To save you the trouble of translating - From a cardiologist: 'If cardiologists had said “quit sugar” as often as they said “take statins,” not thousands but hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved.’ I think that figure could well be in the millions

A little over a year ago, I felt like I needed to respond to the haters, and so many of you schooled me to ignore them. Now I'm the one passing along your wisdom to others. Thank you. I honestly don't mind the criticism or disagreement, but the name calling and vulgarity without presenting even a hint of a cogent argument is what I do mind. Makes me wonder what these people are like in real life when they can't hide behind a keyboard. I make an effort to love everyone, but they make it difficult. Glad we have the "block" option.

I block many many posters every day. So I don't see a lot of the things that upset my husband so much. I keep telling him to try blocking. It is the perfect stress reliever. On the other hand, I find great new profiles to follow, especially by reading you and your daughter's posts.
