@CoffeeBlackMD @Will_of_Europa The more factors that impact CO, the more caveats "eat less, move more" needs, and the less useful it becomes as a weight loss heuristic.

CICO is real. So what is actually going on with people who say it is not? Let’s the beg the question it’s “not working for them” so … why? And please let’s try to keep this constructive, even if the explanation is cognitive bias.

@Will_of_Europa @CoffeeBlackMD CICO does explain that scenario (energy expenditure or storage density much have changed), just not in the causal direction of the "eat less, move more, lose weight" reasoning, which is wrongly conflated with CICO by many proponents.

Not sure which dimension(s) you're interested in, so here's a two expansions: - The one time in my life I intentionally lost weight, the lever I pulled was "move less, ignore calories". - On the other hand, people who pulled CI down and pushed CO up ended up less healthy: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC49… I've also seen CICO proponents argue along the lines that you create a deficit IFF you eat less and move more, then react with denial or disbelief to people claiming (a) this didn't work or (b) they lost weight while eating more or moving less, despite the fact that (a) and (b) are both logically consistent with CICO. Making CI and CO the primary levers for weight loss works for some people, some of the time--but there are other levers that work more reliably in many cases, and telling them they need to CICO better isn't helpful.

It’s a stakeholder alignment problem made worse by the expectations of modern capital markets. What’s good for the investors (e.g. CalPERS and everyones 401k) is often not good for employees and customers. Cooperatives, employee-owned businesses, and credit unions fix this—but then they will be limited be lack of capital.

Enshittification is a popular topic now — we all see it, we all hate it — but has anyone figured out how we get out of this death spiral? What’s the move? Do we all need to bail on a business the second it begins?

The IG personal trainer space is wild. Apparently you don’t even have to do a single rep of an exercise but can still be qualified to train people

@exfatloss If I make to the Austin phase of this bootcamp after next week, I've already scouted a walkable Target and Whole Foods. I'm thinking about 2 pints per day, and if those stores can't supply me, I'll uber to Cotsco Sunday while everyone's at church.

@trishtaylor @MicroBerto @SteveSkojec I think of myself as demographically X but culturally millennial. My friend who's a little younger than me turned into a cultural boomer, but he wisely started a family early.

@JEverettLearned So I was on a very long road trip recently and as the passenger I was rather bored, so I decided to have ChatGPT help me with a wholesome little meteorological meme. If one is so inclined, here is a screen recording of the maddening exchange:

@CarnivoreAugust @seizuresalad I might come back to it, but for the next to months I want the energy and clarity from strict keto for an intense bootcamp thingee.

Heavy cream over ground beef, topped with sauerkraut and kimchi and plenty of kosher salt. @seizuresalad this one is for you.

@exfatloss @runquasimodo If I give up heavy cream keto, I’m going back to rice and beans. It’s such a nice way of eating. PS - went cold turkey a week ago and zero keto flu, unlike last time. I credit copious amounts of LMNT added to my heavy cream coffee. PPS - salted creamy coffee is delicious.
