Alliances in politics are inherently responsive to changing priorities and public mood. The long partnership between Congress and DMK clearly shows this. No one can deny that both parties have mutually benefitted over the years under leaders like Thiru Rahul Gandhi and Thiru MK Stalin working together on shared goals and political understanding. At the same time, political decisions evolve. When Congress chooses a different path today, it should be seen as a strategic move. DMK itself has taken similar calls in the past based on its own political calculations. These changes are part of democratic functioning, not something unusual. What remains important is political maturity. Even while parting ways, there must be mutual respect. Resorting to harsh criticism after years of alliance only weakens the larger democratic space. Leaders like Thiru Rahul Gandhi and Thiru MK Stalin carry significant responsibility, and the discourse should reflect that seriousness. More importantly, beyond alliances, there is a larger ideological responsibility, to prevent divisive, communal forces like BJPRSS from gaining ground in Tamil Nadu. It is in this context that Congress has chosen to realign and explore an alliance with TVK(Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam), seeing it as a necessary step to counter such forces and protect the state’s political and social fabric. In the end, alliances may change, but the focus must stay on Tamil Nadu’s welfare, its future, and safeguarding its social harmony. Time will judge the choices made today, but the dignity maintained in this transition will define political credibility.
