Greenland is a total perpetual money black hole for Denmark and Europe.
Should have jumped at the chance to sell to Trump.
But the entire European political establishment only cares about...what?
Why is not selling Greenland to Trump, ever, at any price, a worthy objective for Denmark and Europe?
Could use the money in Ukraine.
English

@davidfrum the fact that they took this so seriously as to do all this and dont take a nuclear iran seriously is why they cannot be trusted as allies or be given equal footing as decision makers ever again, david.
English

That’s the alliance now. Danish planners quietly mapping how to blow up their own runways before an American president could use them.
Not against Russia. Against Washington. And in the same breath, Trump expects these same Europeans to follow him into the Strait of Hormuz.
The logic doesn’t hold together. One moment Europe is the enemy. The next moment Europe is the cavalry. A mind that can hold both thoughts simultaneously without noticing the contradiction is not a mind running a coherent foreign policy.
Europe is waiting. Counting down the years, hoping America finds its way back to itself before the damage becomes permanent.
Because from where Europe stands, there is now exactly one fully functioning country left in the Western Hemisphere. Canada. The rest – including the United States – looks increasingly like what Americans used to call a banana republic. Corrupt institutions, captured courts, pharmaceutical addiction normalized at a national scale, and a political class that has made lying a professional requirement. Europeans don’t say this loudly. But they think it every time they watch the news.
English

@davidfrum Russia didn't even try for one second to take Kiev.
English

@davidfrum @grok - is this a proven fact or just more clickbait from neocons?
English

@davidfrum NATO allies prepping to sabotage their own turf against us really shows how deep the trust got shattered.
Hard to ask for Gulf backup after that.
English

@davidfrum I agree that Trump has done serious damage to relations with European countries (tariffs, Greenland, Ukraine, etc). My question is this: why aren't European countries willing to help for the sake for their own good? Closure of the Strait of Hormuz hurts Europe more than the US.
English

@davidfrum @grok are they serious with this reporting? I find it foolish to think we would ever do what they accuse us of under any condition.
English

@davidfrum I don't know how serious it was. Looked more performative than anything.
English

@davidfrum They were "seriously' being morons.
Anyone who knows anything about Geopolitics understood a US invasion of Greenland wasn't going to happen.

English

@davidfrum We honestly have ZERO QUESTIONS regarding "European military" or "NATO allies" in America
Don't really CARE about something that DOESN'T REALLY EXIST 🤡👇

English

@davidfrum NATO the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Iran is approximately 1,950 miles (3,140 km) from the nearest point of the North Atlantic Ocean.
English

@davidfrum @yarotrof From the Gulf, this won’t be forgotten. When missiles were flying, European partners largely sat on their hands, clutching their pearls. That’s not neutrality. It will be seen, over time, as a betrayal.
English

@davidfrum No Dave…
The facts aren’t with you here. Over half the British navy is in refit or repair. They have neither the capability of defending Greenland or themselves for that matter
English

@davidfrum Yes but precisely, they should be asking for a settlement on Greenland or for other things in exchange for their assistance. Right now, they're literally inviting Trump to take revenge later, and we will all pay, just because it's popular to push back against the US.
English

@davidfrum True, but additionally, the peril that Trump has unleashed in this war is completely unnecessary. Gabbard admitted under oath yesterday there was no nuclear threat, and Iran had agreed to substantial terms in the international talks in Oman the week of the bombing .
English

@davidfrum And that did not happen. Considering they know we don't have to land on a runway to do what we want it makes Europe look even more pathetic.
English

@davidfrum How long before Trump tries to block funding for Ukraine to spite them?
English

@davidfrum This is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while.
Europe couldn’t blow up a toilet
English

Two things:
A - if the US was going to “sneak attack” Greenland (lol) there isn’t a damn thing Europe could have done about it. As evidenced by the pittance of a deployment they did.
B - the US was never going to attack Greenland. As evidenced by the absolute lack of military assets anywhere near Greenland. The US wanted more military coverage of Greenland. But wanted Europe to do it. Since we’re busy protecting the rest of our fucking joint interests.
English

@davidfrum I don’t even know where to begin with this post. You either have the world view of a child or you’re an excellent grifter. I can’t tell which
English

@davidfrum “Helping us”…
It’s their tankers stuck in the SoH. So not helping us literally costing them half of their oil and gas, and crushing their economy.
They talked tough, but multiple nations are already talking about sending ships but saying it’s separate from US to save face. 😆
English

Still, European leadership with another flawed strategy. They were so eager to say no to Trump. In reality, there was very little help they could provide so just saying yes would have kept the US on their side. Now the given Trump the ammunition he needs to abandon NATO, the Ukraine etc. they weren’t there for us when we needed them …
English

@davidfrum If they were "seriously preparing to defend Greenland" they would've had a group in DC pleading for a deal. TDS.
English

@davidfrum Reminds me of the movie (60s, I think), "The Mouse That Roared". Almost comical.
English
@davidfrum That's fine. They should stop looking for oil and gas from that area also..
English

@davidfrum As much as it is painful for Europe to see how gas prices are increasing on a daily level, this could also be a blessing in disguise. Trump is blood thirsty, and it was just a question of who would be the next after Venezuela. Focus is now on Iran.
English

@davidfrum Only David Frum doesn’t understand that this episode and the Iran war have sealed NATO’s demise.
The U.S. has no longer common national security interests with the Islamized Europe.
Only Eastern European countries will remain allies, together with Israel and many Asian countries.
English

@davidfrum JFC David. Any country's military that has to book a flight on commercial airlines to get a platoon to Greenland can't be called a military.
English

@davidfrum the Europeans should not go to Hormuz "to help the Americans" - they should go to Hormuz to help themselves.
it is America that's incidentally helping Europe by removing the Eyeranian menace from Hormuz and the entire energy exporting nations in the Persian Gulf
English

@davidfrum Why would the US need to sneak? We could announce our intent and give times and locations and they would still have zero chance.
