@scooterwriter No. The point is that their celebrity status means that they don't have to compete for publication on the quality of the work, regardless how good it is.

Is it wrong of me to lose respect for a celebrity who writes a novel or a children’s book? By the law of averages some of them have to be good, I suppose.

Shoddy quality. Not unexpected these days but disappointing nonetheless. 6 months, <1 winter, tab splits off the velcro @endura

Wow 3.6+ million people listening to me talking 💩 This isn't really a story about cocaine although it catches the headlines. It is a story about clean water for human and ecosystem health. Lets make our water cleaner for our children, grandchildren and the planet. 👊 #soapbox
Good Morning Britain@GMB

'Every single marine species that we've looked at so far is full of cocaine.' - Professor Alex Ford Figures are expected to show last year was the worst for sewage spills in England since monitoring began.

Such a loss. I saw him speak in Bristol about 15 years ago and I remember someone asking him, how do we know what to fight for? And he replied, there are people around the world who never have to ask that. Don’t outsource your knowledge. Stay aware.
John Pilger@johnpilger

It is with great sadness the family of John Pilger announce he died yesterday 30 December 2023 in London aged 84. His journalism and documentaries were celebrated around the world, but to his family he was simply the most amazing and loved Dad, Grandad and partner. Rest In Peace.

@JillBelch Serious point: The scientific method dismisses outliers and is inherently conservative. So every study underestimates progress. Scientists have not adjusted for this to everyone's detriment.

Red alert in Antarctica: the year rapid, dramatic change hit climate scientists like a ‘punch in the guts”. Study after study showed the breakdown of #climate systems taking place much earlier than foreseen, with potentially catastrophic results. theguardian.com/world/2023/dec…

@JonWickett @cyclingvia Interesting article, thanks for posting. It is possible that drivers "train" themselves to selectively look out for cars and filter out other road users as "distractions"

@cyclingvia The motorist is at fault. Why did the driver not see the cyclist? The answer may possibly be found here: explorepsychology.com/selective-atte… It’s the same reason why people sometimes can’t see ketchup in the cupboard (right in front of them). Humans have brilliant vision but we are flawed

At some point I’ll talk about cycling again, but this morning is all about FRENCH TOAST 🇫🇷 To use up cream and because I had vanilla essence in the cupboard, like a grown up! Also I finally found some Lyle’s Golden Syrup in the supermarket in a tin- which is the only way … /1

@JillBelch Curious how it's always "former" media employees and not "current" ones able to see the error of their ways.

Good to see this honesty. Let’s hope it changes journalists’ focus. Former Sky News boss John Ryley says he 'failed' on #ClimateCrisis coverage. He argues newsdesks are not taking seriously enough their responsibility to alert public to what is happening. news.sky.com/story/former-s…

@liamdutton When you say "this is because there is a southerly wind.." that's quite misleading. There are often southerly winds. Recent southerly winds are bringing hotter temps because climate change makes Spain hotter than normal.
