"Yo, convention center is closed and we are doing record numbers" Yesterday - An arts commissioner again calls to rethink how much hotel taxes are going to convention center. We are running a perfect experiment with it closed and getting record hotel taxes in. City will say its because of airbnb tax collection.. BUT that is a small factor.. its definitely clear Convention center is not driving tourism as much as its ratio of hotel taxes it receives would indicate

Businesses not only want you to buy their product, they want you to pay for the employees salaries. I think tipping should be banned, especially now that everybody seems entitled!

@DefiantLs This is the most ridiculous culture I’ve ever seen. A “Tip” is a willing and discretionary extra money given for a service provided, especially a satisfactory one. Why are tips mandatory in the USA? What if you’ve offered a shitty service?

This is total BS! A TIP is something given for good service! Frankly it should NOT be based on the BILL amount, Rather it should be based on service! If the waitress and support staff only ‘took my order’ ‘brought the food to my table’ and left me to my own defenses I dang sure am NOT giving a 30% tip! This whole thing is demanding a certain amount based off the bill needs to STOP! “A tip is a VOLUNTARY payment made at the customer's discretion, typically for GOOD service. A gratuity, especially "automatic gratuity" (often called a service charge), is a pre-calculated fee added to the bill by the establishment, usually for large parties or specific services. Both serve as additional compensation for staff. Key Differences: Voluntary vs. Mandatory: Tips are OPTIONAL, while automatic gratuities are mandatory payments added by the business. Discretion: YOU choose the tip amount, whereas gratuity is usually a set percentage (e.g., 18-20%) calculated by the business. Expectation: You are not required to add an additional tip if a gratuity is already included, as it is considered a built-in tip. (However for excellent service many of us do)

I’ll agree some diners are greedy themselves when they don’t leave a tip. That doesn’t lend license to shame all.
