Right, but that’s not really comparable to Covid is it? You know that billions of vulnerable people get the flu jab every year. Yet, hospitals were overrun during the pandemic. There weren’t enough ventilators to accommodate and the vaccine rollout was brand new. So it was imperative to get it out to as many communities as possible to flatten the curve and try to mitigate the death toll. There is no argument here, just ignorance.

@AlexCrighton @alex_house @GSpellchecker I worked for a short while in an actuarial dept. We actually told our HR dept to not give the flu jab to the entire office block as it would increase the number of days off sick, and wouldn't reduce the flu rate appreciably for those under 60.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you can’t just “dabble” in conspiracy theories. Once you buy into one, you’ve already loosened your grip on how you judge evidence and the door is now wide open for the next.
The overlap between anti-vax conspiracies and this sort of silliness is so large it’s basically the same ecosystem: the same distrust of expertise, the same cherry-picked “evidence,” the same desire to feel like you’re part of a small group that’s in on the “truth.”

It’s a remarkable coincidence that the Earth was exactly the same orientation to the moon with exactly the same cloud coverage when these two pictures were taken 68 years apart. Am I now a coincidence theorist ?

Okay pal. Again, you should base your conclusions off of data, not vibes and anecdotes that cater to your political echo chamber. Of course there are going to be cases like the ones you mentioned when you’re rolling out vaccines by the millions to try and mitigate pandemic-wide deaths. But that’s still not a good-enough reason to dismiss the comparative net-positive that very same vaccine is responsible for. Facts over feelings mate.
English

@AlexCrighton @alex_house @GSpellchecker There have been a number of such incidents, like multiple deaths, sterilisation, outbreaks caused (dengue fever). Vaccines have been tested and very very quickly withdrawn. You might want to ask why the politicians excluded themselves from the mandate.

@mugger124 @alex_house @GSpellchecker And in what universe ever has the risk of taking any vaccine, statistically been a higher risk than the catching the disease to which it inoculates you against?
English

@AlexCrighton @alex_house @GSpellchecker Ah the midwit rationalisation.
As a student of history of science I can definitely say that!.
Statistics do count, and every medical treatment has a risk. If the risk is greater than the perceived benefits, then you shouldn't do it.
English

Because that’s not how the world works. If you take a vaccine, it doesn’t guarantee immunity, nor does it guarantee safety from side effects. But anecdotes mean nothing. Statistics matter. And if you have an ounce of intelligence you would base your opinions on consensus, not your own meaningless observations.

@EddieTrunk Because it’s an epic song and he’s in Minneapolis and this would have been amazing to see. Period. Doing covers pays the utmost respect…. Especially when you do have a huge catalogue like Bruce. Prince is all-time. Let them artists be .
English

@EricRaskin Well then that elevates the win, retrospectively imo. Miguel Cotto agrees that Miguel Cotto deserves his spot on that list.
English

@AlexCrighton There was suspicion/concern about the knee, but yeah, Martinez was still favored.
English

BTW, for those in the comments who are saying Cotto shouldn't be top 10 because he only had 3 MW title fights, (a) they were all lineal at least, and (b) the other options were Saunders (4 MW title fights), Charlo (4), Lara (4), or Trinidad (2), none of whom were lineal champ.

Ahead of Carlos Adames-Ammo Williams this weekend — with the No. 1 spot at middleweight on the line — I ranked the top 10 middleweight champs of the 21st century so far (no, Adames, isn't on the list; but he isn't as far off it as you might think): boxingscene.com/articles/the-t…

@DanRafael1 How are Zuffa getting away with even having their own belt on the line? The Ali Revival act hasn’t even passed yet and they are openly promoting their own belt. Isn’t that illegal?

Never a dull moment in the Opetaia/IBF saga. Earlier this evening I received a text from a number I didn't recognize with a legal letter apparently sent from a Las Vegas lawyer to a very high-ranking #boxing official calling for records preservation due to a possible lawsuit against the IBF. Here is a portion of the 3-page letter:
"Mr. Opetaia has good reason to believe that the IBF's abrupt decision to withdraw was the product of coordinated, industry-wide collusion designed to punish him for working with Zuffa Boxing and to deter other athletes from doing the same. Aided and abetted by other sanctioning bodies and promoters, the IBF's action intentionally inflicted (or threatened to inflict) significant financial and reputational harm on Mr. Opetaia. He is aware of messages between high-level executives essentially admitting to the scheme. Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Boxing, has publicly stated that sanctioning bodies would 'make a stance sooner than you think' and 'Jai will get stripped' days before the IBF withdrew its sanction. And IBF President Daryl Peoples' written and verbal statements about 'disrespect' and 'embarrassment' show that the IBF had no legal basis to withdraw its sanctioning but, instead, did so out of retaliation, fear of marketplace competition, and to intimidate Mr. Opetaia and other boxers.
"The IBF and its co-conspirators face substantial civil (and criminal) liability to Mr. Opetaia. You are receiving this preservation notice because Mr. Opetaia believes you possess documents, communications, and information related to his potential claims against the IBF, Mr. Peoples, WBC, WBA, WBO, Matchroom Boxing, other entities, and individuals.
"Accordingly, in addition to the obligations you already have to maintain and preserve documents under applicable law, Mr. Opetaia hereby demands that you maintain and preserve any and all documents and communications in your possession, custody, or control that in any way refer, reflect, or pertain to Mr.
Opetaia, the Opetaia-Glanton bout, and any other boxer who is negotiating or signed with Zuffa Boxing."
This should be interesting to say the least.

@KyeGunner @ade_oladipo1 They don’t. They’ll wait them out and only sign new talent. At first they’ll have to pay more than they want to beat out the competition but over time they’ll bring the market average down and monopolise.
English

@ade_oladipo1 How's Zuffa gonna compete for big name fighters? Yeah guys I know you been offered 50mill, but how about 50k show and 50k win bonus
English

You'll be subjected online to mental illness-as-political opinion where obvious and evil murder Is Actually Good, but most people (including partisans) can see what ICE is doing in Minneapolis very clearly.

@CurtP_ The fact that you can bet on it means it’s not a scam. That is honestly not a bad shout of a bet. There’s a chance AJ may still be nursing an injury and if Jake goes in there purely to survive and has no intentions of trying to engage? It’s worth a punt.

@anthonyjoshua Keeps mentioning how he can score a knockout with both hands. Is he saying that because his right elbow is still f****d?
