I’m slightly baffled that we all collectively accepted a parcel delivery system where an exhausted stranger in a foul mood stands on your doorstep stabbing at a scanner for five minutes, then awkwardly takes multiple photos of you and your house before marching off without a word.

This is completely untrue. Growing up working-class in the late 80s and 90s, my parents never bought it for us. The only times I ever set foot in a McDonald’s were for someone else’s birthday party. The housing market is undeniably broken, but at the same time, the number of luxuries this generation now considers basic necessities is on another level entirely.
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

@Jubilee4CHANGE Yeah, you completely missed my point. I was arguing just like the original poster (i.e. very badly) to attempt to highlight how bad their argument was. Have another read.

@GSpellchecker Your opening line was "Hating women..." Trans women aren't hating women. They're just wanting to be seen & heard for who they are. It's not misogyny when trans women fight to be seen & heard in these issues. Is that clearer?

@clevdar I have a career. I do this as a side interest when I can find the time away from family, friends and my actual job. Which isn't often. Unlucky.

First and Foremost, my deepest condolences to the family who suffered this tragic loss. 💔However, I cannot only be the only one that finds this case to be suspicious. 1. Why do we keep finding Black women in water. This is the 9th case this year. I am starting to suspect that this may be a serial killer case and I am urging ALL women to be very vigilant when outside. 2. How can 3 sisters body be found in water. I have never heard of a case of a group of people dying all at the same time in the same area. Unless there was a weapon involved like a gun/bomb that both 3 women could not escape, a tragic accident like a car crash, boat crash or they collectively decided on this tragic fate. But even that does not sound realistic. Naturally, family members assist, protect and defend each other, I cannot wrap my head around all 3 being dead. 3. The images are waving a red flag. We are getting an animation and not actual real life images. Maybe this was decided by the family and i respect that. Additionally, most black women don't have these hairstyles in 2026. These look like hairstyles from the 90s. Something is just off

Here’s @HJoyceGender fact-checking at pace on Jeremy Vine on Radio 2. Have left the intro on the front for you to pick up the editorial tone. She was immensely mismatched with the following guest - it’s embarrassing that experts in the law are up against uniformed activists.

No, not accurately. I argued that while promoting a $100M+ studio film, the lead's job is to help sell it to the widest audience possible by being likable and avoiding unnecessary fights—not that she must stay silent forever or that she's contractually barred from opinions. "Shut up and play basketball" oversimplifies strategic PR advice into a free-speech shutdown.

I've no real interest in a Supergirl movie. The trailer looks like fairly standard safe-action-comedy CGI superhero fare to me. But I like movies, so genuinely, good luck to them. What has been interesting, though, is watching its lead star, Milly Alcock, seemingly fail to understand the assignment. It's not even that what she said was necessarily wrong. The point is that her job right now isn't to be "right" about everything. It's to help sell a product that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to as many people as possible. Stars of massive studio films really need media coaching on how to avoid picking fights while promoting a movie. It should begin with understanding that saying anything which can be perceived as attacking your audience is a really, really bad move. When asked about "fan backlash", it shouldn't be difficult to give some version of: "I love this character, and we put everything into making this film. I'm excited for fans to see it. I understand people can be passionate and opinionated, but that passion is why we get to make these movies in the first place". Easy. Isn't it? Making movies is a team sport. They require the blood, sweat and tears of thousands of people, most of whom you'll never know by name. The lead actor should be going to bat for every single one of them every time they step in front of the press. This means doing your best to be as likeable to as many people as possible.
Variety@Variety

Milly Alcock addresses the backlash she received after saying that “simply existing as a woman is something that people comment on. We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies.” “I didn’t even say ‘men’ — I said ‘people!’” Alcock says. “And they got so angry. I was like, ‘You’re proving my point. You’re proving my point!’” “And [the backlash] is from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo, who are burner accounts. Or someone’s name and then ‘Dad of four, Christian,’ which is hilarious to me. But I mean, whose opinion do you really care about? If you’re pissing the right kind of people off, you’re doing OK.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lHi9I

@GSpellchecker Your take is essentially boiled down to "Shut up and play basketball." Unless her employer specifically tells her to knock it off while making/promoting the film, or has it in her contract that she isn't to speak out on w/e she wants, she is free to do so. Bad take on your part
