@NotreDame Nonsense. He’s acting like a politician who wants to take cheap digs at the American president after meeting with political hacks from Chicago. The most tireless advocate for peace is Donald J. Trump.

With all due respect to the Office of the President, this post contains several claims that are factually inaccurate and theologically misguided, and as a Catholic I feel compelled to respond. 1. The Pope was not elected to please any president. Pope Leo XIV was elected by 133 cardinals from across the world in a sacred conclave, on the fourth ballot, on May 8, 2025. The Holy Spirit guides the conclave, not American politics. To suggest that “if I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican” is not only historically ignorant but theologically offensive to every Catholic on earth. 2. He was not an unknown outsider. Pope Leo XIV served as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops under Pope Francis, one of the most powerful roles in the Vatican, responsible for selecting bishops for dioceses worldwide. He was one of the most qualified candidates in the College of Cardinals. 3. He is deeply rooted in service, not politics. An Augustinian missionary who worked for decades in Peru, Pope Leo XIV dedicated his life to the poor and the Gospel long before any political figure noticed him. His name honors Leo XIII, the Pope who championed workers’ rights and the poor during the Industrial Revolution, a tradition of Catholic Social Teaching that predates any modern political party. 4. The Pope’s role is prophetic, not partisan. When the Pope speaks on peace, nuclear weapons, immigration, or the dignity of nations, he is fulfilling the mission of Christ, not opposing any government. His first words as Pope were “Peace be with you all,” echoing the Risen Christ (John 20:19). A Pope who is silent on injustice would be failing his divine mandate. 5. Demanding a Pope “get in line” with a president contradicts 2,000 years of Church history. From St. Peter before Nero, to St. Thomas More before Henry VIII, to John Paul II before Soviet communism, the Church has never existed to validate earthly power. “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29) As Catholics, we pray for all leaders, including President Trump. But we stand firmly with our Holy Father. Habemus Papam. And he answers to God alone.

@AndrewTWalker I could be wrong but I think it's just ignorance on his part - I think he posted it to mock the Pope not Jesus. It would make sense as a follow up to his Pope bashing truth social post. I don't think he had any idea that was a normal characterization of Jesus.

Seeing the President break Commands 1-3 of the Decalogue during Eastertide is one way to wake up on a Monday. That post needs to be deleted. Cheesy and kitsch, yes, but also rank blasphemy.

The statements made by President Trump on Truth Social regarding the Pope were entirely inappropriate and disrespectful. They don’t contribute at all to a constructive conversation. It is the Pope’s prerogative to articulate Catholic doctrine and the principles that govern the moral life. In regard to the concrete application of those principles, people of good will can and do disagree. I would warmly recommend that serious Catholics within the Trump administration–Secretary Rubio, Vice President Vance, Ambassador Brian Burch, and others–might meet with Vatican officials so that a real dialogue can take place. This is far preferable to the statements on social media. I am very grateful for the many ways that the Trump administration has reached out to Catholics and other people of faith. It has been a high honor to serve on the Religious Liberty Commission. No President in my lifetime has shown a greater dedication to defending our first liberty. All that said, I think the President owes the Pope an apology.

GA-14 saw everything Trump has done and said recently and STILL voted for one of his muppets over Retired Brigadier General Shawn Harris. You Trump morons are proof that we’ll never find common ground with Republicans. You support treason and r*pe while Democrats put up good candidates. You do it to “own the libs” or whatever dumb cult sh*t MAGA disseminates to their brainwashed masses.

One of the most powerful articles I’ve ever read. Remarkable journalism. Infuriating how negligent this Eastland family was. #txlege
New York Magazine@NYMag

Last year, on the Fourth of July, the deadliest American flash flood in 50 years resulted in the death of 25 young campers and 2 counselors at Camp Mystic, in Hunt, Texas, including everyone in a cabin called Bubble Inn. The group of girls who died became known as ‘Heaven’’s 27. It had not occurred to the families that a Mystic camp session in 2026 would be open to debate. But in September, the Eastlands, whose family has owned the camp for more than 80 years, emailed the camp community with news that Mystic was indeed open for business. It was the Stewards, who lost their daughter Cile, who responded most forcefully. “You are preparing,” they wrote in response, “to invite children to swim in the very river that may still hold our daughter’s body.” In early November, seven of the families filed three separate lawsuits against Camp Mystic, alleging negligence and detailing bizarre behavior by the Eastlands, and in March, the Steward family asked the court for a restraining order that would preserve part of the camp as a “crime scene.” In the end, the court agreed to a temporary injunction preventing further remodeling to the camp’s Guadalupe River site, though nothing would prevent Cypress Lake from reopening for the 853 girls who were, according to Mystic’s lawyer, signed up to attend. “The idea that your daughters will return to the same Camp Mystic is a farce,” Caitlin Bonner, who lost her daughter Lila, said, “and anyone incapable of accepting that is as delusional as the camp leadership.” There is little disagreement about what happened that night. The disagreement is about whether it was an act of God or the fault of camp leadership. To understand the Christian faith, we can go with the former gym front-desk worker turned blogger, or we can go with the Successor of St. Peter.
Allie Beth Stuckey@conservmillen

Pope Leo: “[Jesus] does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.” There is absolutely no biblical basis for this whatsoever. Christians should strive for peace, yes. We don’t revel in death and destruction. And a Christian could make a sound argument against the particulars of many wars throughout history, including the war with Iran today. A Christian could also agree that God shouldn’t be used to justify unjust wars. But to say that God is against war per se is flat out false. All throughout the Old Testament God calls for war in defense of His people. Exodus 15:3 declares, “The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is His name.” David constantly prayed to the Lord while battling his enemies. He says his cries to the Lord “reached His ears” and God answered him. God didn’t just answer David by hiding him away but by giving him lethal strength: “He trains my hands for war” (Psalm 18:6, 34). If you discount these examples because they’re in the Old Testament, you don’t understand Scripture or God. Jesus is God; therefore everything God has ever done Jesus has fully agreed with and participated in, and He does not change (Hebrews 13:8). Mind you also that Jesus Himself promises to come back as a warrior to wage war against evildoers. There are categories of people whose prayers God does not answer: the self-righteous, those who pray with selfish motives. People who wage war are not automatically in one of these categories. I’m so glad our founders did not believe this way. I love this retelling of the story of the pacifist Quaker who allegedly heard Washington praying in the woods at Valley Forge: “He was at Prayer to the God of the Armies, beseeching to interpose with his Divine aid, as it was His crisis, and the cause of the country, of humanity, and of the world.” Sometimes force is necessary to defeat evil and advance good. When it comes to these matters, Pope Leo has repeatedly proven that he is not wise.

Kentucky does not equal Appalachia. Only half of the state is Appalachia. Saying "who is from Kentucky. Ohio is not Kentucky" is foolish and means nothing. Both Beshear and JD Vance were birn one county away from Appalachia proper. JD Vance was raised by Appalachian grandparents and grew up poor living in Appalachia every summer. Beshear was raised in Lexington by wealthy parents from Louisville.
