@heymrsbond As someone who has taught both 8th and 9th graders, here is my hot take. 9th graders are often more immature than 8th graders for the first semester. They regress. Their behaviors are really more like 6th graders.

@heymrsbond Freshmen are an uphill battle all of the first semester, and then they start to figure it out in January and it’s somehow so much easier. But every year (six so far), I do have to remind my freshmen to wear their own shoes on their own feet at least once.

Students don't need their phones in school, even for emergencies. Contacting emergency services is the adult's job. Every single classroom has a classroom phone. Parents rushing to the school slows the response time of emergency personnel. There are protocols for reunification.
