Even if we were to forget about the bigotry, the show just doesn’t make any sense. The movies were made recently enough that they still shape how we imagine the world and the characters. It’s weird to see them looking almost like themselves, but not quite.

I don’t think “running an actual food truck” should be a class at school. I would prefer if human teachers taught kids how to read and do math the normal way that has worked for 100 years.

@pourfairelevide If you dig into it it's actually a lot less dystopian than they make it sound. Students get to spend most of their day on project-based learning like running an actual food truck. I think it's pretty cool that they get to do hands-on stuff over traditional academics

But as it progresses he realizes that the world is fundamentally flawed and he has to decide how he handles that. Isn’t that just a perfect story about growing up?

What’s disappointing is that the series could’ve grown up. The potential was there.

Part of this arises from Rowling’s own limitations as a worldbuilder. Fantasy humanities would require the education system to disclose things to the characters/reader that aren’t directly relevant to the immediate plot. She struggles there.
