The ‘rhea’ in ‘diarrhea’ comes from the Greek word 'rhein,' which means “to flow.” The word 'stream' also comes from the same Greek word.

@MRREDRED031 schools are underfunded that’s a fact in most cases but some murals are donated or artists will do them for free/in exchange for a mention in something the school does like a newsletter or fundraiser to get the exposure or to be apart of a bigger picture !!

@TheAlexSylvian Slightly unrelated and people have discussed this enough but the audience that Ghostbusters garnered is so fucking strange to me. The first Ghostbusters is, at its best, an SNL movie with a bunch of guys just fucking around. Did it need to become this huge pop culture staple??

@Garbongulus993 @TheAlexSylvian The cartoon does a lot of heavy lifting for Gen X fans. It bridges the gap between 1 and 2, such that the sequel doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. It’s one of the better 80s toy commercial shows, and it was those toys and play patterns that really made GB a sci-fantasy sandbox

@AgrarEma @PlanetZooGame It will be a cetacean, such as a Orca, Porpoise, Whale, Dolphin or False Killer Whale. Personally I think that it will be a Whale.

@Chinchillazllla The protein trend is just a way for people to eat junk food while feeling like it’s healthy.

@offbeatorbit I think it’s in Texas too and I just had a salad yesterday. That’s what I get for trying to be healthy. 😩

@Ponderingpeon @quiet_her @StephenFleming And I think people are much less likely to try something inappropriate in a crowded public place because of that. What also gets me is that they often admit to having amazing experiences doing stuff on their own. Why do they want to rob kids of that?

@Ponderingpeon @quiet_her @StephenFleming What I find strange is that they often seem to view crowded places as more dangerous than less crowded places. Because I think it’s the reverse: if something happens at the Ren Fest, you’re surrounded by witnesses and people you can get help from.

Yet another friend with a child turning 16 next week. Hasn’t gotten a learner’s permit. Zero interest in a driver’s license. I keep hearing this same story. What’s WRONG with these kids?!?! On my 16th birthday, my mom took me out of school to take my driving test. Same for everyone I knew. Even if you couldn’t afford your own car, you could beg the use of the family station wagon occasionally. Freedom. Independence. Heck, privacy on a date! Are these kids giving all that up for scrolling TikTok and an occasional Uber?

@hausoflord @martianwyrdlord @GearDisrespect Yeah it really varies a lot by region. Texas has very little national park land, and the state parks (which still only compromise a tiny portion of the state) are more restrictive than national forest and BLM land.

@martianwyrdlord @GearDisrespect I'm not advocating teenagers or anyone to do this (I think it is a larger societal issue) but in the US, if you're on national forest land you can basically camp anywhere, and BLM land is *GENERALLY* ok to do whatever unless you are taking something.

You can replace "get a license" with almost anything else and this holds. The cost of everything has been driven up, while the joy in anything has been leached out. Youth live in an overregulated, shrinkflated, abhuman, lifeless panopticon where the juice is watered down poison that is never worth the squeeze.
Isaac Young@HariSel57511397

My parents had to basically point a gun to my head to get a license because there was no logical reason for a teenager to ever want one anymore

@martianwyrdlord @GearDisrespect Land access is part of the reason that some states have much stronger outdoor cultures than others. Of course, climate is a factor too. Texas isn’t very fun in the summer! Even the rest of the year can get hot.

@martianwyrdlord @GearDisrespect … getting a spot last minute may not be doable depending on the park and time of year. (this is for Texas state parks, I forgot to say) Also the state parks here are more restrictive on certain things than national lands are, which frustrates some people.

@StephenFleming The roads are a scary place to these young adults . They don’t even feel safe on roads with their parents driving . The old fashioned 5-10 over limit is now 20-30 mph over with increased aggressive & dangerous drivers . That’s what I’m hearing from 15-17 yr olds

@TraditionSarah @StephenFleming That’s insane. Do the public high schools no longer offer drivers ed? My daughter was homeschooled so I taught her to drive. We did find a groupon deal for an online course (which was little more than presenting the evils of dui.)

@TraditionSarah @StephenFleming I’m in MN, when my son got his license 2 years ago there were no fees like that. It was offered through school. However, trying to get an appointment at a DMV near your residence is next to impossible. We had to drive an hour out of town.
