If he waived, it would've meant another long-term, top four D contract on BUF's books (Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson)

@ldl716 @Tucks3423 There’s no point in risking injury in a lost season. There’s no point playing hard when you’re trying to tank. He’s doing exactly what hens supposed to. He fought and hit when it mattered. The guy has the hardest job in NHL babysitting Rielly. Give the guy a break.

@Tucks3423 He is able to “munch” 18-19 mins/night. Andrew Peeke took his mins in Boston and they paid nothing for him. He’s a bottom pairing Defenceman who’s big for nothing. Doesn’t use his size, doesn’t hit, can’t fight, and absolutely cannot move the puck. He sucks.

The Leafs need to not only trade Rielly this summer/at the draft, but also Brandon Carlo.
You lost the trade in a landslide - Minten + that high 1st are gone. Trade him while you can get back at least 1 quality asset; before he fully tanks his value & walks next summer for zip.

Took a min to get there but fully onboard in giving BOS the pick this year. They are going to get a good player - if that’s 6th overall or in the teens.
They must avoid at all costs giving up an unprotected 2027 but especially that 2028 pick.

The plan would be gradually strip this roster down, moving pieces out over time, so that by 2028 the Leafs not only control their own first-round pick, but have actually built up the kind of assets needed to reshape the team properly.

My preference is they focus on moving Rielly and Domi specifically, Hildeby or Woll - whoever returns the best return, you can easily fill some spots with Maccelli and Robertson. I could envision this roster as challenging for a Wild Card spot.

Friedman on the FAN Hockey Show says someone called him on Sunday to tell him Treliving was away for the ANA game on Thursday as he was on the road scouting Friedman said Treliving called some of the players involved in the Matthews incident directly from the road and was livid

That's the wrong thing to do. You're gonna lose any trade involving Matthews or Nylander, and likely break even if at all when trading Knies.

I still think that Robertson + Rielly for Pettersson at his full cap hit would make sense for both teams.
Vancouver gets out of that deal while getting a vet LHD (which they need) and an under 23 scoring winger with a bit of jerk to his game.
