Post Falls’ mayor dismissed Juneteenth as “something that nobody had heard of until five years ago,” and in a 4-2 vote the City Council removed it as a city holiday while restoring Columbus Day. Juneteenth has been celebrated for generations since 1866. A narrow viewpoint doesn’t change the deep history of Juneteenth celebrations. We never needed permission to honor freedom, and we won't ask for it now.
