@brucenilles @mgshanks This guy could be called as an expert witness on the availability of CCS to comply with the Biden Power Plant rule.😀
English

Oil and coal industry push CCS and hoodwink pro-climate govts into believing it is real and then oil/coal industry walk away and leave pro-climate govts defending the technology. Time and again. US, Canada, Australia - UK next? @mgshanks globalnews.ca/news/10484520/…

@Guay_JG I have never understood why hybrids got respect and range extenders did not. I'm on my fifth leased BMWI3. I use about 12 gallons of gas a year for those rare occasions when I get to a remote charging location and its not working. It's way more efficient than say, a Priuis,
English

@Guay_JG Yes, oil as a blessing from God gets over-hyped Should we see Maduro and Chavez as greatly more beloved than Trump. Among our Muslim brothers, God decisively favored the Shia -- Iran, Azerbaijan, even Saudi and Iraqi oil sits below Shia believers. Egypt, Pakistan unfavored.

@HeYiyong @saeverley @MBazilian @simonrlomax @ira_joseph @AllthingsLNG The IEA data shows production, not consumer impact. So US LNG is not as clean as Russian pipeline gas, in part because LNG is dirtier than pipeline gas, and partly US LNG draws heavily from the Permian, one of the dirtiest fields in the US -- so the argument is wrong,
English

@saeverley @MBazilian @simonrlomax hmmm. I thought it is the rather way around. Emission for LNG is much higher than emission of pipeline gas (origin-agnostic) - your view @ira_joseph @AllthingsLNG
English

Methane emissions increase by *fifty percent* when Russian gas is used instead of U.S. natural gas.
Algeria, another major gas supplier for Europe, has methane emissions that are roughly double those of the U.S., per unit of gas.

@David_desJ @nataliefoster David this random -- we haven't talked for a long time -- how are you? I suspect I helped pay the $150K.Glad to do so. But, My 1963 Harvard tuition was so low my civil service father didn't need or quality for aid -- loans or grants. No debt anxiety. I'd like to go back there.

@JesseJenkins Sadly analogy says more about nuclear weakness than tranatlantic plausibility. Hard not to make 3 time zone, intracontinental transmission plus advanced geothermal not wipe the economic floor. 3 zones= 8 peak hours plus 5 shoulder each side. Now Morocco to Spain? Oh yes.
English

What does #EnergyTwitter think? Will we someday have inter-continental transmission lines? UK to US, UK to Morocco, Australia to Singapore, Saudi to India are all on the drawing board. Massively expensive, but then again, so are new nuclear power plants.

As President of the 2024 G20 & COP30 in 2025, Brazil can show the world that fighting climate change, growing the economy, and spreading prosperity are all interconnected. bloombg.org/3Tc5LMZ
English

@JesseJenkins @Guay_JG Well, it's odd, but Elon just told us that he wasted his whole life--none of the things he dreamed of in high school were needed -- not EV,s or rockets, or Solar. All it took was a carbon tax -- odd to think more highly of his legacy than he does.
English

He's really committed to driving me off this platform isn't he... 🤦♂️
Elon Musk@elonmusk
The only action needed to solve climate change is is a carbon tax
English

@Guay_JG @cleantechsonia I'm assuming that the graph is pre-subsidy, and the US is cheaper post subsidy. If the graph is post subsidy, it appears to me to show China as slightly cheaper than US. But if subsidies not shown on graph, post subsidy US is way ahead.
English

@brucenilles ----small nimble, build like a tank -- with a tiny generator and a range extender so the early year shortaage of recharging didn't matter -- never turned back.
English

@brucenilles A BMW I3 was the first car i loved since, sixteen, I bought a used Ford Anglia. Now driving my fourth I3, thanks to California leasing law. It's become a cult car -- unimaginable for me.

Wow. A German incumbent saying tipping point was last year.
John Raymond Hanger @johnrhanger
Good morning with good news: "BMW declares tipping point in shift" from ICE to EVs "as sales heat up." Its 2023 EV sales jumped 75%. BMW expects to sell 500,000 EVs in 2024. Best of all, BMW's 2025 EVs will have “30% more range, 30% faster charging." electrek.co/2024/01/15/bmw…

@Frobozky @davidaxelrod Well, that's the thing about a conspiracy. If your purpose is illegal -- which Trump's was -- stealing an election -- otherwise legal acts which show you were doing more to advance the illegal goal are indeed damning.
English

More damning tapes!
You can see why Trump wants to delay his trial for as long as possible.
The facts are not his friend. cnn.com/2023/12/22/pol…

@kellyBICEP 1) Ending deforestation,
2) Reducing methane released by oil and gas operations by 85% -- below .02% leaks
3) Tripling renewables
4) Ending the construction of new coal
English

@kellyBICEP Particularly true because every nation -- every single one -- can veto any decision. But what is important is the work that goes on outside the diplomatic gridlock. And there are four major climate moves for the 2030's that have a head of steam -- around this COP.
English

@brucenilles But there's no Endangered Species Act protection from global heating!

Great news! "It’s furry, it’s fierce — and in much of the U.S., it’s now protected"
